The local gun store finally got one of the new Taurus 1911 in and I just couldn't say no. I have read a lot of good things about them and hope they are all true. I thought it would be a good fit for me, since it was my first 1911. I didn't want to go out and spend a lot and it has some nice features. Its also my first Taurus gun. The only thing i don't like is the grips, i think some wood grips will feel and look better. All in all it feels good to have a 1911 finally.:D

Shoot a mix of ammo with it, and tell us how it works.

I had a PT-92 15 years ago, and I fell out of love with it very quickly. The double-action kept slipping, and it was very picky about ammo. The good news is, with your 1911, everyone already knows what it takes to build a good 1911, they just get selective about what they are willing to spend to do it. I would guess that your Taurus is probably at least as good as a Springfield entry-level model, and if it does have a glitch or two, any gunsmith can correct it easily.

From all reports, I believe that you will be more than happy with your new
Taurus PT 1911. I inspected several that arrived in our shop over the last
few weeks; and they all look'ed "up too snuff". I think the fine folks over
at Tauri International put a lot of thought into the first batch of PT-1911's.
They aren't even made in the old Taurus shop, where the MIL PRO, 24-7,
and other weapons are made. In other words, they have devoted a brand
new factory to development of the PT-1911.:scrutiny:

I have 2500+ rounds through my PT1911. I didn't like the grips & replaced them with a pair of Houge 1911 palm swell grips. I also had my gunsmith adjust the trigger from the 7lb pull from the factory to 3 3/4 lbs. You can bet that this will soon become one of your favorite handguns!

Ala Dan -
Out of curiosity, did Taurus repatriate another factory for their 1911s?

I've noticed Taurus products seemingly make a big quality push over the last few years...good luck w/ you 1911, I bet it'll be a good one ;)

Good news about grips.

There are probably more variations on 1911 grips than any other handgun. You can get (fake) pearl or ivory, multi-colored, wood, rubber, wrap-around, laser, and a few I haven't heard of yet. Prices range from 20 bucks new to 250 and up for some classy custom jobs. Just be careful if you have an ambi safety, most grips must be modified for it or made specifically for it.

For what it's worth, I recently got a pair of Ajax ivory grips for my soon to be carry gun. My current CCW has checkered wood and wears holes in shirts. The other parts I'm modifying are in the mail from Ed Brown now.
