Went to a range yesterday with the intention of trying out a few 9mm hanguns and then buying whichever one I liked. I ended up renting a Springfield XD Compact, Glock 19 and a Baretta 92FS.

I enjoyed shooting all the guns, but I ended up buying the 92FS. It felt great in my hands and I shoot pretty well with it. The Glock and XD were great guns as well and I will probably own both of them at some point but I like the fact that I can see the hammer on the Beretta and the fact that it has the lever safety made me feel a bit better as a first time shooter.

I pick it up Weds night. Then it's straight to my local range to have some fun!!! :D

A wise choice young grasshopper. :D I don't have a Beretta 92, but I have shot my Brother's and they seem to be inherantly accurate.

conrats, the first gun is always special, you did a good job, renting, shooting and getting the one that you liked best and the one that you felt most comfortable with, good on you, have fun with it, and lets us know later down the road a report or 2.

Aren't all hobbies expensive?

I bought my second handgun ever just 2 days ago, an H & K P2000SK, and I like the visible hammer also.

thats a good choice. they are sturdy, dependable, and there are tons of aftermarket parts if u choose to ever go that route. my hands are a tad too small to comfortably access the safety/magazine release, but if that wasnt an issue for me this gun would be one of my favorites. just try to keep urs looking prettier then most of the hammered ones over here ;).

I think that you made a fine choice. I can understand how having an exposed hammer and external safety can offer some comfort to the new shooter in that it gives you a better idea of the actual status of the gun. But, that comfort is no replacement for proper gun handling (but, you knew that:))

Hard to go wrong with the choice you made. I'll venture a guess that this won't be the last pistol you buy either...

I agree. i like pistols with external hammers and safeties/decockers because 1. you don't have to start in double-action if you don't want to and 2. you can't see the status of the striker when in a gunfight, but you can with a hammer

You live in Chicago, IL and they let you buy handguns? Are you a member of the Daly clan?

BTW, welcome!

That some point will be a lot sooner than you currently have planned!

Welcome and congratulations on a great purchase. 92fs is one of my favorites. Looks and shoots sweet, and the slide is as smooth as silk. I am a Sigoholic, but the Beretta 92fs is hard to beat.

Dealers don't stop people who live in Chicago from buying handguns... for some reason....

You are just supposed to know better....

Either way I don't live in Chicago. I live about 20 miles south of there. It's just easier to put Chicago instead of the tiny town I'm from. :D

Congrats!! :)
Welcome to the "Club"
You made a great first choice. Next step is to buy a good safe. I'd suggest buying a big one because you'll need it. It's very easy to out-grow your safe once the addiction grabs a hold of you.
Whatever you do, DON'T buy a Sig
