First off, just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone. This is my first post here on the forums.

I just put an order in for a new Ruger MK III 22/45 Hunter. I'm pretty excited about it, although they said it may take a while to get in. The last one they ordered took about a month. Oh well, at least it will still be warm out by the time I get it.

I read through a lot of forums and reviews on the Internet and decided that I wanted this pistol over the Browning Buckmark. My other big decision was whether or not to go with the 22/45 or the regular version of the gun. Part of that choice came down to the fact that the 22/45 was less expensive, but I thought I would like the overall grip of the 22/45 better than the original grip, like on the MK IIs.

I can't wait to get this thing in and have a nice Saturday to spend breaking it in! :)

Thanks for the welcome! I just hope I don't get any feed problems right off the bat like I have read about here and there. If it does happen, hopefully it's just because of the newness.

put some CCI Stingers in it and it will pop! I got one in march or april and have had a blast with it. It's highly accurate and a pretty reliable loader and extractor for a 22. If you get the magazines loaded correctly - you'll probably get a bang every time you pull the trigger.

I've seen Mk3's that will put a dime-sized hole in a target from 25 yards, with the stock barrel and the right rounds.

Mine will barely keep all of them in an 8.5x11 target, but that's probably largely me.

Hunters come with the fiber optic sights, yes? I know my 'target' model comes with a front sight that's far too large, but the gun's more accurate than the sights are. :D

You made a good choice with the 22/45, too. You can adapt it for 1911 grips with some real work (I'm debating it), but other than that I just find the grips comfortable as-is. The original Luger-angled ones are just awkward in a modern two-handed stance.

Like m2steven said, throw some Stingers in there. Some serious thump, and nothing like throwing a pop of flame out from a 6" .22. :D

Yea I can't wait to get it. Thanks for the tip on the CCI Stingers, I'll try those out and the CCI Mini Mags that are high velocity. I use those all the time and I hear they should feed well.

Man I hope it comes in sooner than a month like the guy at the gun shop guessed! I can't wait to fire it at some cans.

Congrats! You're going to have that one for a long time. One thing I did when I got mine was pick up 3 more magazines. Since each holds 10 rounds you can load up a whole box of 50 and plink away without stopping all the time to reload. Not a necessity, just a nicety.

Sorry for bringing this post back, but I didn't want to start a new thread. I got called yesterday and was informed that it had come in! Drove to the shop over my lunch hour to sign the paperwork for it. It is indeed a beautiful gun and I hope to have a lot of fun with it!

I'll post some pics maybe on Monday. Unfortunately, I'm headed to Chicago to visit friends so I don't plan on taking it with me, or else I would have pics up sooner I can't pick it up until Friday. Which means I won't get to shoot until Monday. Thankfully I have Labor Day off from work so I plan on going to the range then. Man I hate Illinois gun laws, they are probably the worst in America!

You're going to enjoy shooting it. I really like my MkIII 22/45. It's one of the easiest shooting pistols I've ever fired. Makes me look like a better shot than I am.
