Asked the question in an earlier post about the value of a $500.00 Hi-Power Mk1. Bought it yesterday. Hard chrome frame, trigger, hammer, SS match barrel, combat sights Pachmeyer grips
It took some cleaning but now looks pretty good. With 115 gr JHP ammo, it shoots about 12" high at 50 yds. I'm gonna try some 147 gr ammo to see if it brings the POI down a bit. The previous owned did say that his gunsmith set the pistol up to use 147 gr bullets. Rear of slide has horizontal lines cut & looks a bit off in photo but is ok away from the camera.

Is it rusty around the extractor at the back of the slide? Or is it just the picture?

Looks like a nice pistol. You will LOVE the way it shoots.

No rust anywhere on the pistol. The entire extractor appears to be copper plated or at least is copper colored. I don't think its an original Browning extractor.

Looks nice but what is up on the back of the slide? I have never seen those scoring marks before. Did the previous owner state why they did that.

Looks like it has Ashley Express big dot sights on it along with an extended slide release. The Express sights are not that accurate for shooting at 50 yards IMHO. They were designed for close up work, under 25 yards, IMHO. They were popular at one time in the gun games world because people hoped it would make for a faster sight picture but you do not see them as much anymore.

Are the grips rubber? The grips look like uncle mikes which were designed by Spegel not Pachs, Pachs were wrap around style grips, but I could be wrong.

The gun is not a MKI. Technically there are no MKIs. There are MKIIs and MKIIIs. Yours gun is known as a Pre-T series gun. It has the older internal extractor which is the dead giveaway. T series guns and those which came after them all have external extractors. This gun was made prior to 1964.

Did the previous owner change the rollmark?

Spare internal extractors are hard to find and need to be fitted. I have a similar BHP made in 1961 that has become a safe queen.

It looks like you may have a frankenstein gun there made from different guns.

Does the serial # on the slide match the serial # on the frame ?

What is looks like you have is a 1990's production late model browning frame, with an old 1950's early external extractor top end on it.

If this is what you have it seriously effects the guns value and also the way the gun may shoot.

Note a mismatched is not really worth to much, most ppl stay away from them.

You are both correct. The pistol was offered to me with the story of its past. Damaged barrel / slide & both replaced. Slide with used part & barrel with new. All done by a reputable gunsmith. The grips are in fact Uncle Mikes, my mistake. Stuff on the back of the slide is like checkering with only horizontal lines. I am and was aware of its past, I bought the pistol for shooting not collecting. Frame & slide #s do not match. It does shoot pretty well & feeds any of the ammo I have fed it so far. Whether it is worth the price as a shooter? Only time will tell.
Thanks for the response & information.
