Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any information about the Boulder Rifle Club. The Mrs and I are looking for a range to join and this is the most convenient for us. We did look at the Arvada club but its a very short range.

We did notice that it is limited to 1000 members and there is currently a sponsored only waiting list. I like that it is limited on members to keep the crowds down but I don't like that I'm not one of the members :p

Any opinions on how you like the layout, the people running it, friendliness of the members, ect, would be wonderful.

Happy and safe shooting,
David

From what I hear it's a decent facility.
However, the catch is that the waiting list you heard about. Last bit of scuttlebutt I heard was that basically it was stretching into nearly a decade.

Honestly, when I go shooting, I just go into the mountains. Used to go up to the old Allenspark dump but they closed that one down for some reason. Probably littering.

Iirc, PTK has a good spot south of Denver, you should try to give him a holler.

A decade?

Holy cow. Well thank you for the information, it is appreciated.

Our other choice was Golden Gun Club. Its only a 45 minute drive which isn't too awful and the facilities look rather nice. Any experiences with this club?

I have asked a few people around here and they keep telling me that the places they used to shoot at are no longer open to the public for one reason or another.

Iirc PTK, who or what is this?

No experience at all with the other club you speak of.

PTK is one of our more entertaining and informative members who happens to be in the same general area.

I'm a member and it's a great club. They have two ranges, one in Boulder and one a little West of Longmont,

I applied in 99' and in 2007 they finally called me to interview. It takes a long time because they haven't opened up any new membership slots.

You can still shoot there when it's open to the public.

It's a fairly friendly club and they have a wide range of shooting disciplines. The wait is real but some don't have to wait that long-chalk it up to luck. There are several clubs in the Denver Metro Area. I believe the Golden Club was expensive to join. My papa-in-law belongs to it and we are trying to get him to leave as it cuts into his retirement funds and he doesn't use it that much. In the end it's his choice but there are many other choices up there.

Good luck, and hope you get in. As someone said, they host many types of shooting so you might try before you buy.

Unless I am mistaken, the Golden Gun Club resides on the Watkins Rd, south of Watkins, CO.
I know nothing about a facility in Boulder or Longmont?
The Watkins facility is located West of a Trap/Skeet facility and occupies a short to long= 500 yd range suitable for paper or silhouette shooting from 25- to 200yds. Paper to 500 yds?
Their matches are a little quirky but the range is functional; I think they have bowling pin berms, or used to. You shoot to the North which is good, when you don't have to deal with the West wind.
They do not own the impact area beyond the berms which may be a long term concern.
The Colorado Rifle Club about 40 minutes NE from there, out of Byers may be a more long term investment (Great facility!).

Does anybody know anything about the new facility that they were building in the Longmont area?
It looked promising last I saw what news there was.
