Hey guys
Don't ask why I was watching Oprah yesterday(must have been the cold medicine), but they had the producer of "Bowling for Columbine" on. He really was making me angry with some of the things he was trying to portray and misrepresent. He was saying that all people in suburbs who own guns are just waiting for a chance to pull on someone and shoot them. They played a ridiculous scene from his movie in which the "white man" (whatever that means) has always been paranoid about being over powered. He tried to say that the pilgrims ran away from england because he was a coward. He tried to say that white men needed guns to kill the indians and slaves.I think this guy is very unAmerican. The things he said were wrong and innaccruate. He was twisting facts to get a certain kind of people to agree with him.
He gave statistics about other countries having a low crime rate. He said over 11,000 people are killed each year in the US because of guns. Is this an accurate statistic? Not to make light of people killed by guns, but what about cars? Drugs? Alcohol!!? Cigarettes!? Swimming pools? Big Macs?(speaking of Big Macs, it looked to me like this guy had few big mac clogging his arteries). What about the role that movies play in gun violence? They make killing seem easy and without remorse. What about video games? They program kids to kill. Guns aren't evil, although they are designed to kill.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I found his movie from the short parts shown and his comments to be offensive and wrong. Police aren't required to protect me, just keep general order. If I dirt bag is going to have a gun no matter what, then why shouldn't I have one? And why can't I enjoy shooting targets? Why can't I kill my own low fat extremely lean and tasty venison? If normal citizens weren't allowed to have guns, we would be more prey to robbers and criminals.
Anyone else see Oprah yesterday?
