They sent out an offer of buying ammo by the pound. Basically, they took the ammo in torn boxes and filled ammo cans with it and put it up for sale that way. They completely failed to set up their system so that once it was added to your cart, the amount you added was subtracted from the inventory. Based on just the Facebook traffic, I'm betting hundreds of people were able to add their ammo to their cart, navigate through the constantly crashing check out process, and finally be told that the item was out. Not a very good way to attract customers in the future.

They're one of the best established ammunition dealers in the industry so their big concern will be annoying steady customers instead of attract new customers.

IT failures happen occasionally. At least it wasn't as bad as the HC.gov rollout. I too had the same problem but honestly don't mind so much, I know how crappy it is to be a web programmer and sometimes one tiny little mistake blows up in your face like that. I wouldn't try to destroy them over a little mistake like that. At least it wasn't something purposeful like the stuff CTD did.

Part of the problem here is you get people who are existing customers (e.g. who have accounts and have actually bought stuff before) going OMG BEST DEAL EVER!!!!11 and instead of keeping their big traps shut they go post links on every freaking gun forum and blog on the internet to "help". Then everyone and their uncle lines up all at once, tries to check out, has things rotting in their cart for 10 minutes while they try to set up an account, the website crashes, and chaos ensues. Not to mention all of the people who are presumably putting on their buy-low-sell-high hats for the next gunshow... Classic just had the same problem with $99 Mosins last week. It would be interesting to see how many people get in on these deals who are making their first purchase from a vendor, and who just set up an account for that purchase.

Summary: If you sign up for emails and "limited" offers come out, shut yer pie hole. You're not getting paid to advertise and you're not helping anyone out (except the people who are too lazy to sign up on the email subscriptions for things they might like) by blabbing it all over the e-universe.

Really?:scrutiny:
Midnight Friday could be either 12am Friday morning or 12am Friday night.
Doesn't matter if youe are EasternCentral, Mountain or West.

Is midnight the end of a day or the beginning of a day?
When someone refers to "midnight tonight" or "midnight last night" the reference of time is obvious. However, if a date/time is referred to as "at midnight on Friday, October 20th" the intention could be either midnight the beginning of the day or midnight at the end of the day.

To avoid ambiguity, specification of an event as occurring on a particular day at 11:59 p.m. or 12:01 a.m. is a good idea, especially legal documents such as contracts and insurance policies. Another option would be to use 24-hour clock, using the designation of 0000 to refer to midnight at the beginning of a given day (or date) and 2400 to designate the end of a given day (or date).

Considering the amount of ammo he successfully sells with no hitches, I doubt a snafu once in a while is going to really hurt business. The average is greatly in his favor.

It happens. Otherwise Ammoman has been the go to guy for me for bulk ammo purchases. No tax free shipping competitive pricing. Not a common business model for ammo sales these days.

I missed it because i didn't read ALL of the ad. It said "midnight Friday" so I set my alarm for 2100hrs tonight. Then I went back and looked again and noticed it actually said "midnight Friday morning." GRRRRR :D

I was a bit disappointed by the execution as well, items in cart, but out of stock by checkout time. It wont affect my buying from the site, they've done right by me so far. You win some, you lose some.

People have very weak memory, especially when in future they will be offered with a good deal in Ammo. Same happened with CTD. People vowed not to buy from them, due to them removing firearms after Sandy Hook, but I see the same people going back to CTD.

LOTS of people are completely ignorant of what CTD actually did after Sandy Hook. They did NOT stop selling firearms, but because their online ordering system allowed you to put as many AR's as you wanted in your cart (exceeding actual inventory) they temporarily stopped online firearm ordering until they got their software updated.

It's one thing to end sales when you bow to perceived bad press (Dick's).
And another when your customers order 100x as many AR's as you have in stock.

dogtown, you may want to rethink what you are saying.

This is what the posted when they suspended the sale. It does not anywhere say anything about system or inventory issue. They came up with that excuse when they realized that it backfired on their face and posted that excuse only in January.

" Cheaper Than Dirt! has temporarily suspended online sales of firearms.

As a long time supporter of the Second Amendment, Cheaper Than Dirt! will continue to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms by law abiding customers. During this temporary suspension, we will review our policies and promotions."

Tell me, where it says about huge demand? CDNN is an example, where they suspended sales and mentioned it was due to huge demand, not policies.

You need to get your facts straight.
CTD never stopped firearm sales. Only online ordering until they updated their software. I went by their store in Fort Worth and business was brisk to say the least........and they had sold out of every AR in stock.

You are new here, so I won't be so rude to just say "Google it". My notification from them was in an email to dealers. I'm sure if you look you'll find it.
