but to be fair to myself, SIG was wrong in a way too.
I used to not be a SIG fan, after shooting many P220s and P226/28s, but I have religion now. Well, maybe not about the 220 just yet, but certainly about the P226.
I always disliked the alloy framed SIG pistols, especially due to their relatively high bore axes, (plural of axis before anyone nitpicks), when comparing them to my beloved 1911s. However, over the New Year holiday, I got to shoot a P226ST and now I am smitten.
The ST was the pistol SIG should have made in the first place, leaving the alloy one as a lighterweight option. With the ST, which not only makes the SIG look rather decent, but also decreases felt recoil in the 9mm to just about nothing, this long proven warhorse finally becomes a really sweet shooter in my hands.
Already blessed with the best of breed DA/SA pull and transition, the ST takes care of that pesky high axis problem by making the perception of it die away with the extra solid feeling in the hand. For me, the alloy framed SIGs seemed to "squirm" about in my grip a little too much for my tastes, but the ST has rid at least the 9mm full size SIG of this perceptual sin.
Only four nits left for me now: 1. If this pistol is from Exeter New Hampshire and not custom fitted in any way, why is it so damned expensive? 2. The mags are still priced as if made of a semi-precious metal. 3. There should be an all steel version that is not stainless. 4. A model sans fad rail should be made available as the cleft lip on the dust cover detracts from the few desireable lines the P 22x series sports.
I have, however, found my "end of the AWB" celebration pistol. Thanks for listening.
