Went to Bqss Pro's today (opened the store!) and wow they were short on BP stuff! Only hd 2 boxes of 44 balls and 2 lbs of (That's all!) I grabbed it for $22 a pound! No 36 balls at all! and worse of all NO CAPS! I was suprised to see the shortages have hit BP also!
It was my back-up shootin fun.
Well I still have my airguns but they don't go Bang!
BP is so relaxing, it forces a leisurely pace upon you and if you let it, it translates into slower firing too!
I still don't see how the oldtimers kept their caps in place! When carried in a holster, mine loose at least one cap. That could be deadly.
I use a loading stand that I mad from scrap wood and boy it sure helps not spilling powder as you load. ' I take my time, I use a prick to clear each nipple and after loading and before capping, I push the prick through the nipple hole to ensure a good flame path! I don't know that it's amything but being anal on my part, but I like to play with loading procedures.
I use Patches about 90% of the time because Crisco is so damn messy! I DO think that it helps keep fouling loose and it just wipes away.
Folks tell me it s,ells like breakfast! I can't tell anymore I don
t smell anything anymore when I shoot.
I've never carried a BP Revolver as a Trail gun. I bet it's perfect for the job! I'd choose a .44 for the task just in case I needed the power. A .36 is really nice but along the trail power counts!
With the Remington you can load and carry 6, with the safety notch!
I have the ideal holster for the 5 1/2" Remmie! It's a crossdraw, totally CAS legal angle. even without a hammer loop, the gun stays put! A quick snatch from any position.
Yea, I'm a Remington fan... 35 gr of Pyrodex and a round Ball. except for the caps falling off every once in a while. Plenty of oomph for any task.
Now with the shortage affecting stuff, I'm going to try and stay ahead and have supplys on hand! if neded, a BP revolver is perfectly adequate to defend yourself with! Plus you can keep one burried in the back yard without anyone knowing!
With my fondness for S/A revolvers, I have been teaching myself D/A work with a S&W Model 10 and Chief. Man D/A is hard to learn! the gun really wiggles! I'll learn reding from the Experts and praticing!
It may be old fashoned, but Plack Powder fits right into the modern world just right!
Thanks for letting me ramble!

I love em also. Big and Bad and Beautiful. But, where do you live ZVP? I'm asking because I don't want to run into those same shortages. :banghead:
