Gurus:

I've been a (fanatical, obsessed) pistol competitor in a handful of disciplines(NRA Bullseye, air, free, standard, centerfire).

I am looking for something in black powder . . . not interested in SASS stuff (sorry guys) but looking for slow fire/single shot/target or silhouette type competitions.

I have poked around on the web and have found BP rifle and BPCR target/silhouette competitions but have not found anything on "target pistol" in black powder.

Help! Any info would be appreciated . . .

To quote a usually reliable source (ME!) from your other thread...

The NMLRA is the sanctioning body for most muzzleloading competition in USA.

Also...

NRA did it at Camp Perry, too.

but are now in cahoots with NMLRA
NRA 2007 Muzzle Loading Championship - July 6-8, has moved to the NMLRA Walter Cline Range, Friendship, Indiana. Format and awards similar to past NRA championships at Camp Perry.
But that appears to be rifle matches, I cannot find anything on pistols NRA + NMLRA but NMLRA certainly runs them. I have shot BPCR at Friendship and they have substantial pistol ranges.

International muzzleloading is HQ at

Kind of a contrary site, but you can find some stuff eventually.
Note that they name each event after a prominent maker of the guns used.
Looks like you would be in Kuchenreuter but you would have to forget about those scope rings and probably shoot a sidelock; this is not a straightline game.

No 6 Kuchenreuter - Individual O & R (Separate divisions for Original and Reproduction.)- Team No 18 Boutet (O)
A) Pistol: Free single shot percussion pistol, rifled, any calibre
B) Sights: 19th century contemporary sights
C) Target: ISSF 50 metre Pistol target
D) Position: Standing
E) Distance: 25 metres

Thanks for all the help Jim on this thread (and the equipment thread in the Blackpowder forum).

I have poked around on the NMLRA and NRA sites and have found a bit of (primarily rifle) competitions. The USIMLT/IMLT sites seem to represent more of what I was looking for; you are spot on about the "Kuchenreuter" event being close to what I had in mind.

I didn't necessarily want to go with "reproduction" style arms- more interested in 21st century BP capabilities than 19th - but the tradeoff seems to be between being modern with no competitions or going retro with at least an opportunity to compete.

Also getting more info on the competitions and arms used. This looks like it is going to be about as expensive as my existing "Bullseye" and "Olympic" obsessions . . . gonna have to put a lead smelter right next to my Dillon . . .
