I thought I would ressurect this list as I've found it to be quite useful and figured some of the new members could benefit from it. These are invaluable references covering all aspects of black powder shooting as well as the history behind the guns and the men who used them. Any new suggestions are welcome.

Good listing of references. IMHO, these should be added.

29. "Percussion Colt Revolvers - The Second Generation" Collectors Handbook & Price Guide by Dennis Russel
30. " '51 Colt Navies" by Nathan Swayze

Yes. Very, very well done. This should go in the sticky. Thanks.

I'd add Mike Cumpston and Johnny Bates books:

34. Percussion Pistols and revolvers, History, Performance and Practical Use
35. Percussion Revolvers, A Guide To Their History, Performance and Use

While on the subject of printed matter:

Any one familure with a series of pamphlets by Majoe R.O. Ackerman "The Muzzle Loader's Little Library?"

Are there more than 4 booklets in the series?

If it is still available Colonial Williamsberg Foundation used to offer a VHS video of their gun maker producing a long rifle from skelp up.

While visiting the shop at Williams berg a couple of times a decade or so back I was allowed to walk a pass on the rifleing bench, play with and snap a flint fowler that was 99percent finished, and examine the lock and mortise of the Lake Erie Wall Gun from the Museum of American History currently on display in D.C. so I find myself encouraging folks to find a copy of the VHS.

I would add these.
Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West by D R Chicine
Black powder and the Old West from SHOOT! Magazine
The Confederate LeMat Revolver by Doug Adams (a must for any LeMat owner)

Good suggestions, all. Mykeal, your number 34 is already listed as number 2, but the Guide to Percussion Revolvers by our own MEC is an outstanding book and a valuable reference in it's own right.

I would add "The Gun Digest Blackpowder Loading Manual" by Sam Fadala. I agree that this should be added to the stickies.
