That is AWESOME! :D

As much as I love the 870 as the best pump shotgun ever, I've always been a huge BPS fan. (all of that screwing around with Ithacas as a kid I imagine).

The one downside for using one as a 3gun/fun gun was that I had to have a piece of pipe threaded to serve as an extension.

Now I've got to order one, trim back the forearm so it doesn't extend over the receiver, and stick a side saddle on both sides.

Great, now there's another gun that I need. As if I didn't already have a wall full of stuff at work that I want to get.

I'm just such a sucker for defensive shotguns.

It needs better sights though. Now I'm just trying to talk myself out of it. :p

Seriously, this is a gun that Browning should have brought out decades ago, but they've always been so "sportsman" oriented and afraid of serious guns. If they would have got their act together, and did a modernized Hi-Power back in the 80s, they would have dominated the emerging wonder9 market.

A fighting BPS could have challenged the stranglehold the 870 and 500 have held on cruister guns since forever. Now that everybody has switched to M4s, that's pretty much a dead market though.

No kidding. Browning seems to always wait too late.

That shotgun is tempting, but it seems it would have some drawbacks to loading quickly and keeping it topped off. And aren't jams hard to clear with that action (Ithaca type)?

I thought you had to open the action to load the magazine? (Hope I'm wrong.)

Can some with experience with that action fill me in? (I'm use to driving 870s and Benelli Novas, in terms of pumps.)

Thanks.

I don't own a BPS. I don't think I've ever really even handled one however I've owned three Ithaca 37 shotguns and I carried an Ithaca 87 at work for a couple years. If the BPS is like an Ithaca, which I THINK it is, there are no problems with topping it off. Simply insert rounds into the magazine, the action doesn't need to be opened and should'nt be opened. As for jams and hard to clear, you'll need to be more specific. Are you talking extractor failure, ejector failure, shell stop failure....? From what I've seen, if your shotgun truly "JAMS", you better have a pistol handy and be prepared to transition cause there is no "Tap, Rack, Bang" or "Push, Pull, Rack and Roll" way to clear it.

AAAAARGH!! Why did I have to read this when I was planning on a 870 for HD purchase come Monday. :D Though I do like the option of having so many market accesories for the 870, I reallllllllly like this BPS. Gonna be another sleepless night now, thanks Marshall.

PS sarcasm

I've shot a BPS on the trap range. Maybe I'm just too used to a side eject 870, but it's a bit awkward loading the BPS. And I can't really remember exactly why.

Aside from my personal awkwardness loading it, Browning makes great products and the BPS is a great shotgun -- especially if you might have a lefty shooting it sometime.

Thanks for the post! First time I've seen a "tactical" Browning.

I'm really happy about this!! What a perfect excuse to finally get my own BPS.

When I was duck hunting years ago, my primary shotgun was my B-80 until it had problems develop. When I couldn't use that, I used my grandfather's BPS and if that wasn't available it was my 870. The BPS was my favorite of the pumps, by far. Top tang safety, bottom eject, and that forearm never failed to slide like butter.

Time to get away from THR and call the local shop.

We just got one in at work the other day, it's pretty sweet. I think the price was like $389 or something. It should compete pretty well against the Remington Home Defense.

I'm with ya

I've been ogling this thing since I stumbled on it on GunsAmerica.com, this thing is about perfect IMHO.

I hunt with a BPS, so I'll answer these. Great gun, by the way. Darn near indestructible.

Nope. Just shove the shells into the tube.

Don't know. Never had a jam.
