Does anyone have any information on Thomas Raether at BPStuff,LLC. I haven't heard from him since late September and he has about $800 worth of guns and cash of mine. He never was very communicative to begin with, but my patience is getting thin even if his web site says he is real busy at the moment.

I got an email from him in November, saying my guns were near the top of the pile. It took him a couple of weeks to reply to my inquiry.

I was thinking about sending him another email; it would be my second inquiry since the summer time. It won't "bug" him, but it won't hurry my stuff getting done, either.

I received the same response on Sept.21 about my being on top of the pile. I have sent 3 emails since and have I have not received a reply.

I ordered 500 .457 balls from him on 4 Oct last year, my Paypal account was charged the same day. Sent 4 emails over 3 months, he responded to the last two saying it would be soon. Balls arrived just after the first of the year, 3 months after ordering. Quality was spotty: sampled 50 and got 8 out of round and more than 10% off in weight.

Good thread fellas. Thanks for the comments. I'm gonna scratch BP Stuff, LLC off of my list of sources. I can already tell, based of feedback, that the only way I'd use this dude is if I were desperate. Even if someone is the bees knees of quality the one thing I find unacceptable is poor communication. It is definitely the sign of someone who has no clue on how to run a business. But that's his business not mine. :scrutiny:

My thoughts exactly, just not worth it to me to deal with someone like this.

Add me to the list. I ordered some .454s last November, and have yet to see them. Sent two E-mails, and got no reply. Wrote to Pay-Pal, and got some run around about having to open an account with them before they would give me an answer on what's up with this guy. He has a secretary named Helen Waite. If you want an answer from him, you have to go to "Helen Waite" LOL

I sent him an 1858 to be reblued in July last year. He told me it would take about a month and requested payment at that time. I sent him his fee. He emailed me VERY rapidly and told me that he had not received the USPS money order. I put a trace on the money order through the post office. About six weeks later the post office refunded me the value of the money order. At that time I called him and told him that I would send him his fee once he had my firearm ready to ship. Have subsequently been unable to contact him.

He was rapidly able to communicate reference his fee but is impossible to contact reference to fulfilling his part of the bargain. Here is his phone number: 920-235-3146. Good Luck!

I found that same phone number and have called several times. His answering machine instructs to leave a message.

I e-mailed him with an order last week and he replied that due to a heavy burdon at work he would be Months behind in filling my order.
Sorry to hear that things are going wrong for so many of you!
Needless to say I just bought elswhere.

@!#$Y#(@#% He's got my Walker frame for re-bluing and my $350 for a customized 1860 Colt.

What can I do with a Walker barrel, wedge, and cylinder?

I emailed him in January and a couple of weeks ago with no reply. I guess I'll buy another Walker and if I ever get my other one back, it won't hurt to have two of them.

He goes by the handle "Deadguy" on TFL. Maybe you could contact him through TFL. Worth a shot. I see he's been on that site as recently as last month. Hopefully Deadguy won't turn into DeadBeatGuy for those of you who haven't received your weapons or goodies back yet.

"He goes by the handle 'DeadGuy'...."

Hmmm.... That should have been a BIG CLUE.... Ya Think???

Thanks for the heads up guys... the last thing I need is a deadbeat contact, I will avoid that one like the plaque...

Sincerely,

Same Question, Looking For Help

Gentlemen,
I’ve come across this thread through a Google-search and it seems that I’m encountering a common problem with BP Stuff LLC. He did a great job on an 1860 Colt Army for me about 18 months ago, shoots great, looks great, very happy. I was so happy that I sent Mr. Raether some small parts for two separate restorations I am working on (WWI SMLE and Boer War Mauser) since his fire and rust blue really adds an old-world touch to certain parts. However, this was back in October and I have not heard anything from him since at least January. I really don't like having valuable (to me) parts in the care of a man who refuses to return an e-mail or phone message and my partially complete restorations are starting to feel like mocking liabilities taking up space in my gun safe. I'm getting ready to head to deploy Afghanistan (USMC) shortly so I'd really like to end this saga prior to putting my guns in storage. At this point, I'd be happy just to get my pieces back. Has anyone heard from Mr. Raether at all recently or should I scratch this one up to "experience"? Any advice would be welcome.
Sean

For a while he had a message on his web site that he shut down the catalog portion, and intended to fill all back orders before reopening his site. That has since gone away, and in it's place is some jargon about how to set up an LLC. Some other junk on that site about shoes?? I'm only out $25 for some 454s.

Perhaps a friendly phone call, from several of you, to his county's sheriff's department (or other government office) is in order. A lot of people complained here about Big Iron Barrels a few years back, but few did anything about it. I am preaching to myself here also.

I sent him a message on tfl asking him for an update. I also told him if he doesn't have the time to do the work, just send me back my Walker frame and a refund, minus shipping.

I'll see if I get a reply back, then take it up a notch.

Will do

Gentlemen,

I'll be happy to call an authority for the whole group if nobody hears anything for another week. That would be June 13. Let me know and I'll handle it.

Sean

Umm... Guys...

At the risk of being self promoting... Two people here, myself, and another member, are forming a small company to produce precision cast balls, conicals, mini balls, and several other small possibles, like hand crafted, hand made patch knives, stag horn cappers and powder measures, et all... We are not done setting up all the paperwork yet, and I am just now building the web site. I have been working all weekend, setting up our product numbering system, and product labels, et all...

So, we are not ready yet, but we are on the way. And no, we won't treat you that way. We won't be doing any custom gunsmithing work, at first, just running a little teeny gargage shop type factory producing our items. We should be up and running, by August the 1st.

If you would like us to carry bullets you have a hard time finding, let us know, we will get the molds, we want to be very responsive to our customers, and we wish to carry odd, hard to find things as well. By Christmas time, we should be set up to produce cartridges as well as bullets.

Don't send us any money, not now, just let us know what you would be interested in having us carry in terms of caliber, diameter, style, and grainage...

Thanks alot Guys !!!

Sorry for the commercial, but, hey, we all gotta eat right?

You can contact me here with your requests, or email us at

Sincerely,
