I always thought folks were BS'ing when I heard "one hole group" or "one ragged hole". I'm finally getting closer! ;)

Savage 10FP, Super Sniper 10x42, 42 gr of IMR4895, 168 gr Sierra Match King. The .840" is edge to edge, from the top left to bottom right.

Congrats! Nice group. What caliber were you shooting (I'm assuming .308 with the 168 SMK)? It seems to me that I've heard the benchrest guys measure the group like you did and then subtract one bullet diameter to get the center-to-center measurement. So, if you were shooting .308, the actual size is more like .540"

I usually shoot 3-shot groups and had a couple of nice ones today myself. Haven't measure them yet though. I was using I4895 and 168 SMKs as well.

Yep, .308. I like that formula for group size, I don't think I've heard of it before.

I was getting decent groups before with a Win748 load, but I had to buy some IMR4895 to reload my 7.5 Swiss, and decided to try it in the .308. The first few groups were "less than optimal," and I was starting to lose hope. Apparently I just needed to dirty up the barrel again.

It's just a lot of fun when you finally get that 5th round to go where you want it to. Usually it ends up somewhere in the 7 ring. :scrutiny:

You posted while I was typing, mpthole, those are some nice groups. I have no idea what the exact velocity is on this load, I don't have a chrony yet, but I'm looking to borrow one from a buddy of mine to find out (more to find out my std deviation than anything else). The load is supposed to be fairly close to Federal Gold Medal Match, so I'd imagine around 2600 fps.

I should probably be shooting more 5-shot groups, but today was mostly to check velocity and to see if they'd group at all. The numbers I have on my images are edge-to-edge like yours. Its kind of fun to knock that extra .30" off and know what it would be center-to-center. :)

I'm putting out groups just a bit looser but under 1" with my -06, SGK bullets and IMR 4350. I might have to give IMR 4895 a go since I see its performing good for you guys.;)

Nice! But if you moved your windage to the left by maybe 4 or 5 clicks, you'd have hit the coin. :neener:

I have a 10FP in 223. These Savages are perhaps the best tack drivers for the price.
