Hi Folks,

Lately I have REALLY been thinking strongly about the carry laws here in Tennessee. While they are probably pretty good compared to some parts of the country, they are also pretty restrictive in some aspects.

I would dearly love to see Vermont style carry laws passed in Tennessee, no permit required to carry concealed or open. I know that as a community we are much more used to fighting defensive battles than offensive, but this would be a wonderful change to Tennessee laws, and if we dont go on the offensive sometimes are certain to lose in the end.

I dont have any real political experience, but I know there are people on this forum who have been fighting the RKBA battles for many years. So lets start brainstorming here, and maybe some of you can educate others of us as to what would be the best course of action.

I DO NOT WANT THIS THREAD TO BE ABOUT RON PAUL, let me repeat I DO NOT WANT THIS THREAD TO BE ABOUT RON PAUL, but the way his campaign has been driven over the internet shows us a great deal about how we can use the 'Net to network with others and make big things happen! We should be able to use this loosely as a blueprint to begin a campaign for a law like this.

So who is in? Pitch in and lets figure this out!

This board compared to others seems...

Very weak in that department.

Kentucky,
Tennessee for a southern state is a very tough nut to crack.
Just look at the fortress, metal detector Capitol Bldg. at Nashville.Non-resident permits are almost non-existent.Age 21 is too high.Open carry no go without permit and even then frowned upon.Alcohol area off limits.Parks?
Its an uphill battle in the Volunteer State.
You are not alone in the South.GA,FL,VA,AR,TX,SC and NC also have ridiculous restrictions.

Sorry Kentucky but I just picked up on this thread but I too would love to see some laws here changed.

The two that bug me the most is no restaurant carry if the place serves and the one I have been often chastised for complaining about which is that it is a misdemeanor to carry in a posted property. Unlike many other states where the sign doesn't mean anything but you could be busted for trespass or disturbing the peace if you refuse. That to me would be a great middle of the road law that we could live better with. It would give the carrier a chance to fully conceal and still be protected and the proprietor of a business the ability to remove the carrier if he or she was made or if he or she felt the necessity to open carry in a business that doesn't want firearms holders there. Notice I said business as in "public place" not private residence where the owner should have the complete say.

I think there will be something to say in Nashville next year when the restaurant carry issue comes up again and a show of force as well as letters and e-mail to our reps may help. Also getting the liberal politicians out of Memphis wouldn't hurt either.
