i have a 1187 with a blued barrel soaking in about a inch of break cleaner in a can. my choke is stuck and im trying to break it free by letting it soak for a day. will this harm the blueing? non chorinated brake cleaner btw.

It won't hurt the "bluing", but it likely won't work either. try Kroil. Do NOT bugger up the notches trying, or it will likely cost a lot more and a new choke tube to get it out.

Brake cleaner does a great job of cleaning the crud from your barrel or the threads of your choke; however, it is not really used for dislodging a stuck choke tube. As mentioned, Kroil does a wonderful as will most high-quality penetrating oils.

If it still does not come out after soaking for a day, use a hairdryer to gently heat the barrels up while they are secured in a padded vise. That way you can apply gentle and even force to try and loosen the tube.

Once you get it out and clean it up well, use a grease or anti-seize lubricant on the tubes threads next time to prevent this. Remember to always take it and clean it, especially if been getting wet from duck hunting and the like

Good luck!

+1.

Brake cleaner isn't the right tool for the job. Kroil is an amazing penetrating oil. Try it.

Once you get it out, grease the choke tube threads so you can get it out next time.

Also, the threads of teh choke aren't in the first inch of the barrel. Look at another choke you have, they are at the other end. Make sure your Kroil is deep enough to get to the threads.

Liquid Wrench from the hardware store works, but don't expect any of 'em to work in two hours.Give them the overnight treatment.Patience,Grasshopper.

Penetrating Oil is what is needed here, to "wick" into the threads. Kroil has been mentioned, and there are several others; PbBlaster is another one that somes to mind, along with "Liquid Wrench"

ok well i dont have access to anything but rem oil break free and brake cleaner and wd40 at the moment im pretty broke lol

thats tough its such a tight fit. i dont have a choke wrench ive always just uesed a quarter as one. but i just fired 20 rounds out of it to heat up the barrel and tried it again but i bent 3 quarters ( using pliers for leverage) so far.

Go Borrow a real wrench from a gunshop, friend, someone. You need to use the right tool for the job. PB Blaster is some good stuff. Will cost about $4. Try plugging the muzzle end and filling up the inside up to the top of the choke. Let it soak for several HOURS. Then use the wrench, not a quarter.

The hair dryer will work, heat plus penetrating oil works wonders, ask any mechanic. You need to get it hot enough that gloves are necessary, and keep pouring the oil to it from both ends. Good luck, they can be a pain.

Use the hair dryer or "heat-shrink tubing gun" or hot-air paint stripper gun to heat up the barrel in the threaded choke area, then while hot, GENEROUSLY apply penetrating oil such as Kroil, PbBlaster, Liquid Wrench or WD-40. Or place the hot muzzle end into a container of Penetrating Oil and let soak until cool...lather..Rinse..Repeat

Use the specific choke wrench for your barrel. I have seen a few folks mess up chokes using coins, etc as a wrench.

i got it out with a choke wrench and a 12 inch pipe attached to it. cleaned the threads with brake cleaner, (rusty, old duck or goose gun) choke lube on em but the threads arent very good it was hard to screw back in flush.

So many people over her ask the same question.(England)

My advice is soak in plusgas or break free for a week and then try(it's a slow process)

Other option is pay a gusmith a small fortune.

WD40 is good to repel water not free off stuck stuff!

Clean the threads INSIDE the barrel with a good bronze brush and cleaner and run patches through it until clean. Make sure the threads on the tube itself are cleaned as well. Then apply the anti-seize or grease.

IS a Water Displacement first and foremost
Absolutely! It does that job extremely well! It also does many other things equally well and one of those things is to penetrate into close tolerances and free sticky objects.
