I went to the range today and realized how bad my brass addiction is. I compulsively picked up every piece I saw, but saw a nickel (which is worth more than most of the brass I got) and kept walking.

I've got many times more brass than I'll ever use and I still pick-up brass and raid the brass buckets at our range.

You are not alone. There was a time when I was the only one picking up brass at the rifle range I frequent. Even if I didn't load for it I could at least use it as trading foder. Now it's rare I find a piece of brass. Get all you can.

I found this dude next to me a few weeks ago bangin' out .223 by the hundreds. He didn't reload so I got all of it. Such a rush when I come home and my brass bag is heavier than my ammo bag was when I walked out.

Paul, all this rain is keeping me out of the desert. I'm feeling weak. Is there a meeting next week for our 12 round... er, step, program?

I know the feeling. I was even picking up .22 cases yesterday! After sorting it all out of my other brass it was surprising how much weight those .22 cases add up. The range I shoot at doesnt have near the amount of brass as most ranges but at least I dont have to worry about losing mine.

You can console yourself with the belief that all you're doing is cleaning up after the slobs that shot before you. The money you gain from selling the excess is your reward for the extra labor.........

Hope this helps.

I too am a brassaholic. I find When I'm shooting ARs that I'm more concerned about where my brass is going than my bullets are going. Doesn't happen often but when I do shoot at a range I spend more time searching for brass than shooting.

It's pathetic

^so true. I feel like golem hunched down looking for brass. "my precious!" The last time I went to the outdoor range I never even changed targets during cease fire. I was scrounging brass. It payed off though! Then I find my self shooting more, just so I have a reason to load more! It is an addiction...

I can't help my self..first thing I do is walk over to the benches that the AR guys blast away,,and pick up all the brass i find,,Do I need it?.. could i use it. yeaa somewhere down that road,,I have buckets of range brass,In the winter I clean deprime, seperate by brand,,and put them in cans, with tape on the top lids, what they are and what needs to be done.I have about 3000, 223 cases already for powder and bullets..
I cant help my self..I got to have it...

I have over 1k .223 loaded rounds, and at least 1k that needs to be processed and reloaded. I've only ever bought .223 brass once... and it was 100 pieces new.

All the rest has been what I've picked up at the range.

I was taught to "police" our brass in the Army.

So naturally out of "habit", I have continued the practice of keeping my shooting area spotless when I am done shooting and offer my service to other shooters too lazy to "police" their brass (with permission, of course). ;):D

Hooah!

I was sorting brass in the garage tonight and told my wife I was a brass hoarder. I can't stand to leave it on the ground at the range.

You passed up a nickel? Shoot, I pull over to the side of the rod to pick up used bungee cords.

I pick up brass too. It's litter and if I dont someone else will.

:D Thats how feel when I find my missing 9x18 Makarov brass that has sailed into a sea of 9x19 :uhoh:

I've yet to come home with less than 2x the amount of 9mm or .223 brass that I left the house with.

Where I get funny is with my 6.8SPC, .204 Ruger and .300blk cases. 6.8 cases are pricey and uncommon enough that I've never found one at the range that wasn't mine. .204 cases are not particularly expensive but it seems that the usual suspects are always out of stock. Whenever I'm somewhere that carries reloading supplies, I buy whatever Rem or Win .204 bras they have in stock and after 4 years I still only have 800 or so cases. Neither of those two can be formed from common brass either so if I lose one it's gone. The .300BLK has time invested in it. I have trimmed and formed 200 cases so far and all they have cost me is time since they're all made from LC range pick-up, but I made them dangit and I won't leave a soldier behind!

This is the one thing I'm not looking forward to about taking my 6x45 AR to the range. Sorting 6x and .223 brass is going to be a pain.

You could make 9x18 cases from 9x19/9mm Luger cases and have a "sea of 9x18 cases" :D

You can easily trim case neck with Lee Zip Trim or drill mounted cutter. ;)

Have fun!
