Yellow brass scrap is about $2.39/pound.
Are rifle and pistol casings considered YBS?
I have about 5 1/2 lbs of brass in just two (2) days of shooting. (.308 & .45)
If so are the casings worth more to someone who is into reloading.

Sometimes brass casings are bought as a specific alloy at a different price, it depends on the scrapyard.

They are worth more sold as reloading brass than scrap though. I don't know the going rate, but 308 is worth something like .20 each.

Some scrap buyers will pay less if the cases have the primer in them. That causes problems with contaminating the brass when it's melted down.
Almost always you'll get more selling to reloaders, or commercial reloaders.

If you can locate a buyer you'll do a lot better selling them to a reloader. There are some commercial reloading companies that might be interested in buying what you have.

I've traded in used brass to these guys for credit on their reloaded ammo. They make good stuff BTW

Once fired?

You'll get more either on this forum in the classified section, or going to GunBroker than you'll get for scrap. Worth way more to reloaders.

Once Fired or at least once fired brass in the industry just refers to fired brass, it doesn't always refer to only once fired brass. Almost all of the brass sales businesses will tell you this.

As many have pointed out already if the brass is in reloading condition its worth more that route.

Not all brass is reloadable for any number of reasons and my scrap yard does give me full yellow brass price for it.

@DetBrowning
How much do you want for the .308 brass.
What brand are the cases?
If they’re from a domestic ammo company I would be interesting buying them.

PS: And is it Large Rifle primered brass?

The scrap guys I take my brass to don't care; in fact, a significant amount of my brass scrap are spent primers!
Aren't primers made out of brass?

I've arranged with a friend, I didn't know he reloaded. I'll give him the brass and he'll give me a certain amount of ammo back at cost.
The rounds I have are from 40 year old Malaysian NATO .308 I bought at a show in the early 80s
When I bought it (3000 rounds it was dirt cheap) I used some for deer hunting up north, maybe 200 rounds for sighting, hunting and plinking and never used the rest until now when I recently got back into shooting after I moved to Florida

Thank you. I am glad to see they will be reused.

I’ll bet that .308 was “dirt cheap”. I recall in the ‘90’s my buddy was buying 7.62 NATO & .308 Win. For 15¢ per round by the case. I converted my M1 Garand to .308 and then the price more than doubled. Haha

Around here the scrap yards have a separate classification for cartridge brass. Its slightly less than other brass. And not all of them will take it.
This thread reminds me that its about time for me to take mine to the scrap yard. I need to run a magnet through it first and make sure theres no plated steel cases mixed in!

I bought a bunch of that back then, also.

There was an excellent gun show at the Yonkers raceway where vendors sold it.
