Brass storage

I have buckets of brass in my garage. It doesn't get any more humid/salt air than where I live!!, Nothing happens to the brass.
Brass doesn't rust, it may tarnish from surgically clean brilliance to a more brass like patina:)

I have it on good authority Massachusetts is FAR more humid and salty than anyplace else in the world. Florida's just not that special when it comes to heat, humidity and salt air.

Tumble clean your brass with NuFinish car polish, it will leave a protective coating on the brass.
Ohio valley here...my cellar here has no humidity problem and a normal wipe down suffices to keep guns and all steel tools in good shape. I keep my brass in tupperware, but not hermetically sealed. I use NuFinish when tumbling brass and have had no corrosion problems...but whether that was the result of my basement's atmospheric conditions or to the NuFinish tumbling is open to debate. Regards, Rod

I lived south of houston, 15 miles from the beach, for 25 years. Never had a problem with green, fuzzy brass.

I think that heater is your problem.

Walnut tumble with NuFinish and store in a tight container

I like these, I have 25 of them

Just make sure you wash those out real good before putting brass in there. The salt can have a nasty effect on it.

I have to suspect there’s a chemical agent involved here. @Mogas how are you cleaning this brass before it goes to storage?

Thanks for the reply GeodudeFlorida. I have not been cleaning my new brass at all. I have just left the brass in the original shipping bags and then put in a metal wall locker. I see now that I will have to get some good storage containers. I think that good quality tupper ware with the desiccant packs would be better than what I got now.

I suggest tumbling them
In rotary tumbler and adding a preservative.

I do my brass with stainless steel rods and Dawn. But what works for me in a dry climate may not work for your.

Ah. I didn’t know you were talking exclusively about factory new brass. That does change things. Yes, use desiccant packs and baggies. Should be fine.
