We finally did a build where I remembered to take a lot of pics along the way to show the "how-to" process of installing a KA-1212BR and doing a pretty simple breacher shotgun build. Sorry about the poor pic quality, I'm not a photographer

Step 1: Acquire shotgun. This was a customer's shotgun, new in box, bought specifically to have this conversion done on it. The gun used in this project was a Remington 870 security model with 7+1 capacity

Step 2: Disassemble into basic components and cut barrel. Pretty easy on a Remington 870, we just stripped it of its furniture and took it apart to make refinishing and installation easier. We cut the barrel 2.00" shorter than we wanted the finished barrel ass'y to be and lapped the end of the barrel to allow the brazing to bond stronger. We also marked the 12 o'clock position on the barrel with a white chevron so that we can align the bead hole on the KA-1212BR correctly during installation.

Step 3: Braze/solder barrel into place and lap smooth. We used a unit without setscrew holes since we have the tools here to do brazing/soldering easily. This same conversion can be done with a setscrew version, it simply requires countersinking the screws after installation, welding/brazing over them, then lapping the welds smooth and flush. Here's a pic of a barrel done with a setscrew unit that has been welded over and lapped.

Step 4: Prep and refinish parts. After all work was finished, we prepped, degreased, and refinished the parts. The color of choice on this shotgun was matte black Duracoat. It has a smooth finish but a very subdued tone to it. The parts were preheated to 120 degrees and left to cure overnight.

Step 5: Reassemble shotgun. After the finish cured, we reassembled the shotgun. A few parts were replaced at the customer's request. We replaced the factory stock with a SF-III stock, the factory bead sight was replaced with a Hi-Viz fiberoptic, the stock follower and mag spring were replaced with a Scattergun Technologies follower and a Wolff extra power mag spring, and a 6rd SideSaddle was installed as well. With a full magazine the gun carries a total of 18rds now.

Step 6: Inspection and final details. The entire gun was hand-buffed with a dry, clean cloth to strip any possible overspray/blushing and ensure a smooth, even finish. This gun is also going to get a forward mag clamp with sling swivel so a rear sling stud was installed and the lettering on the barrel was inlayed with white enamel per the customer's request.

Good looking project!

However, for those of us (me, at least) not familiar with all the parts you used, can you explain where the last 4 rounds (of the 18 you mention) are hidden? Is it in the stock? (I count 8 in the 7+1 original places, plus 6 in the sidesaddle, plus the four I can't locate.)

Thanks!

Yep, they're in the stock. The Speedfeed III stock holds two shells in each side of the stock in spring loaded plunger tubes. If you pull out on the end of the shell with your finger, the plunger pushes the shell into your hand. Makes for a quick reload. In this application the stock will likely hold 4 breaching rounds and the SideSaddle will carry 00Buck.
