And hoplophobia: Fear of weapons.

I think Sigmund Freud once said that people who are afraid of weapons are insecure sexually and is not really mature.:)

It's a felony?? NYC can pass felony law? In most states, only the state can do it and cities can add misdemeanors and ticketable offenses.

they think that it makes them pass as toys. Like if a gang banger had a pink AR LEO's wouldn't believe that is was a real gun and drive on by. Lauer Weaponary has the bloomberg line of gun coats, because of this ridiculous train of thought.

Oleg,

I like the thought, but I'm not sure about the delivery. A regular person probably can't ID any of those items. Is that the intent?

Also, I'll go out on a limb and say that the middle item is a sticky lint roller minus the roll?

It seems that having the lint roller in the poster only reinforces that coloring gun parts makes them indistinguishable from any other brightly colored consumer item not typically used as a weapon.

I think Bloomberg would like this one. "As one can see in the photo, there is no way for an officer to distinguish which the parts of a deadly gun from something as mundane as a lint roller. Just these colored gun parts put the officers of the NYPD at risk as they may not recognize a gun pointed at them, it puts our children at risk looking like one of their playthings or even mommy's lint roller."

I think a fair more persuasive ad would focus on the innocuous uses of painted guns. Something like, "Competitors of all kinds customize their gear, why should competitive shooters be treated any differently?" and have pictures of maybe a fancy bowling ball, an airbrushed motocross helmet, and a painted race gun.
