Today I went to the local gun shop and met with a fellow marine that just returned from Irak. He was explaining how he was having problems to get the gun permit due to the fact than when he was over there they gave him medication to help him sleep.

This is totally unacceptable. Our heroes treated like criminals now?!!. Not only current society forgets about them with our busy schedules, with our little Christmas shopping and next reality TV shows but we allow the law makers to implement this BS laws and create a new unfunded fear among comrades.

I remember back in the service I used to sleep with my rifle next to me. It was a cozy feeling that old beaten up, dinged old rifle but you knew that if you needed it was 100% reliable and ready to bite anyone to save your or your buddies life.

So when a veteran comes back from war give them the firearm he or she wants to make him/her feel better, safer and more calm until we slowly adjust to civilian life. Civilians might not understand this but you are so used to the firearms than when they are taken away is like taking off one arm or a leg. That is the least we can do, provide anything our heroes need.

I hate law makers and politicians. They are a cancer and we have to live with this. hopefully 2011 will be a year of less senseless talking and more of patriotic American action.

Happy new year everyone and god bless our heroes.

Cheers,
E.

...God Bless you John if you see this.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice for you and all your fellow Marines.

My family and I are grateful. I agree with your comments.

God bless you all.

Thanks to you for your service and to all those who are and who have served.

I, too, agree that this country needs to appreciate our service folks and to treat them with the respect they are due and deserve. They have sacrificed enough and don't need pinheaded bureaucrats to add to their discomfort.

There are supposed to be laws in place to protect you from repercussions of seeking help for combat related stress, but I think they are federal, so the state can probably do whatever it wants.

Thanks to all who have and are serving. The highlight of my Christmas shopping was the pleasure of a handshake with a Marine who was collecting money for a children's charity at Bass Pro Shops. He thanked me for my small donation- my thanks to him was for a whole lot more!

I don't think it is so much that people have forgot, but the war has been going on for almost a decade, so it isn't going to be on TV or in the news as much. Just the other day I was having a few drinks in the airport waiting for a flight (not in uniform), and when I went to pay, the bartender just had a funny look and asked me if I wanted another. "No, I was just coming up to pay". Oh, your good, I got this for you.

People still appreciate you. And I know that I appreciate it.

While I appreciate the sentiment, moving to discussing elder care is certainly off-topic on a thread that was questionably topical as it was.
