Took my hi power out to the range today and she started having serious problems after the first magazine. It's only the second time shooting it after I removed the mag safety. I fired the first mag without any issues.....then after firing a round the trigger would lock up, I'd have to eject a live round before it would fire and the trigger would lock again.......any ideas on what happend?

It's the third picture that concerns me.

My BHP has no such cut in the slide, providing I'm looking at it right.

Those are cuts made by a high speed cutting tool!!

If your BHP came like that, then it's defective, I'd take it back and get another one!!

The cuts in the barrel appear normal, except for excessive tooling marks.

Really nice huh....not sure what happend to sheer off the side of the feed ramp like that. I sent some pictures in to FN customer service. Never had to deal with them before so we'll see.

Was it like that when you got it??

Normal use should not have caused that much stress...unless there was already a hidden flaw in the metal at that point.

Without actually seeing the fracture interface, I can't tell.

But from what I can tell, it almost looks like a mistake by the CNC machine.
It does look like a tool cut!!!

If you did modify it so the mags drop free and are planning to send it back I would try to Unmodify it or they may not fix the gun,

Hello. I have a MkIII and it has the same cut on the slide - this cut is from the machining operations to make a channel for the sear lever. I do not think that there is a problem with that area of your slide - this shearing is normal - this is where the hammer rubs the slide in recoil. And your barrel also looks normal. Please, provide more information about your problem.
P.S. Feed ramp is a part of the barrel, just in front of the ulocking lug, but I did not see any damage......
Best, Boris

I also have a MkIII but mine's a .40 S&W. Your Hi-Power looks normal to me, but I'm at work and don't have mine on me right now.

Nothing is missing there. This cut is there for a reason - providing space for the trigger mechanism to operate. Every Hi-Power has it.
Best,
Boris

Thanks Mizar....I'm retarded....:banghead:. I didn't recall seeing that when I cleaned it the first time. I'm just looking for reasons why the trigger locks up now after every shot.

Is the hammer fully back when the trigger is locked up? Could be dropping to half cock due to incomplete cycling or worn/worked on sear. Is it ejecting normally? Did you release the trigger fully? Shouldn't have to release all the way, but the lifter rod coming from the trigger has to get back under the transfer bar in the slide to reset the trigger.

Thanks for the suggestions.....I'll check to ensure the hammer is locking back all the way and the trigger is reseting fully when I take her out next week. If I recall the trigger was reseting, but your idea on the hammer may be on the money. Thanks again.

Jerry

Were there pictures? I don't see any.

There can occasionally be a problem with the trigger resetting after the removal of the mag disconnect. It's rare, though.

If you have to send it back to FN, restore it to its factory condition, or they will restore it and charge you for it.

Did it fire fine before you modified it, ie removed the magazine disconnect?

If the answer is yes.....then the problem is fairly obvious.

Past that I dont know, as my gunsmith skills are limited.
