I was at my mothers house looking over our hierloom JC Higgins model 94, 30-30, lever action. This rifle has a lot of sentiment attached to it(my grandfathers, then my fathers, both passed), anyway, I didnt zip the case all the way - and carrying it back to the closet- it fell butt first onto the floor shattering the butt cap(old brittle plastic) and a big chunk of the stock popped off...I just feel sick about this. There is enough stock to pin back on, but the finish was so nice it would have to be completely re-done...should I have a gunsmith repair it or can I find replacement stocks for this rifle? Would it be interchangable with a similar Marlin or was this made by winchester?

Start with the usual, Gun Parts Corp.

If there is no wood missing, I'd keep the original and just repair it. New stuff is unlikely to have as nice a finish, etc. Anyway, refinishing is not that much of a chore. Strip it a little, re-oil, wipe, easy.

Lots of discussion around here on refinishing, so search a little. If you can't figure out how to repair, ask here again. If just split from the impact, glue might be enough.
