I picked it up yesterday after waiting 11 days from date of purchase (Yes, in PRK many gun shops require 11 days so as to avoid someone buying a gun at 5pm and trying to pick it up at 8am on the 10th day--it must be 10 full days, ten 24hr periods). I could hardly sleep the night before, I was like a kid on Christmas Eve. I had not bought a gun in about 14 years! :what: I would like to thank ArmoredMan for recommending me the CZ P-01. This gun was hard to find. I had been trying to buy one since Christmas. I paid $549, which means $625.36 out the door. Oh yeah, I also had to buy a $10 CA (DOJ)approved gun-lock before I could walk out with the gun.

I took it home, field-stripped it, cleaned it, then took it to the range and shot it.

My photography skills and equipment are both bad. Not shown are 6 snap-caps, an allen-wrench, and a pointy tool that came with the gun. Also, the date on the targets should read 2-19-06, not 2-9-06.

My first target. 35 rounds at ~7 yards. The group probably could have been tighter had I not begun attempting to shoot out the red center. Unlike my Glock 17 which I tend to shoot a little to the left, I was hitting to the right with the P-01. A little less finger on the trigger seemed to prove remedial.

My second target. 15 rounds at ~7 yards. Again, this group would have been tighter but I was attempting to reconcile POI with POA.

I hope that this is a better shot of the pistol. Please don't hold the gun responsible for my poor picture-taking.

I really like how the P-01 fits and feels in my hand. The controls are all very accessible. The trigger is different from what I am used to on my other handguns (Glock 17, Ruger Super Blackhawk) but I expect that it will become familiar to me in no time (with dry-firing and range time). Thanks everyone for sharing my joy! The CZ P-01 Rocks!

Very nice gun.I was always told CZ's could be had for a fair price.

I have to admit they seem are the same price as every other gun now.

Jashobeam: Nice gun, good shooting. I'm shoping for one too if I can find the right price. A buddy has one and the first mag thru it at 12 yards produced pretty much the same as yours...spot on accuracty. As you said, it too felt very natural in the hand.

Good shooting and great choice. The P01 (and PCR) are very nice. The only thing I did to my PCR was replace the recoil spring with a Wolff 18# spring after the first 1500rnds, and I replaced the mag springs with Wolff as well.

grip thickness

how thick is the grip? is it too thick to easily conceal? i have carried an xd9 concealed, but the grip was a little hard to hide somtimes. i think the grip length was the culprit. is the po1 grip thicker or thinner than the xd? i have sold the xd and am looking to replace it with something a little more compact with a steel or alloy frame.

That's $100 more than they go for here, too, and I DO live in CA. However, I'm sure that San Jose makes it a real PITA to sell guns, so that reflects in the retail price.

It's one of my favorite guns. Don't own one, but I have shot them.

price wasn't the selling point

Perhaps I could have found a better price, but I had gun money and had to strike while the iron was hot. The first gun shop that tried to order the gun for me had quoted me $505. Five weeks later, still no CZ. The cz-usa website listed Reed's Sporting Goods in San Jose as an official dealer. The store is fairly close to my house. During the two months that I had been looking for the P-01, I had not even had the chance to hold one or even see one. Basically, I was willing to purchase it sight-unseen, even though I work at a gun shop and would never recommend that anyone purchase a gun without being certain that it felt right in the hand of the prospective buyer. I was willing to trust those who had recommended the P-01 because, unlike the Glock, Sig, 1911, there is no hype or mass-allegiance associated with it. Besides, I had already determined to buy a CZ handgun and in the end decided on the P-01. ArmoredMan and many others said that it was one of the most, if not the most, accurate and comfortable pistols they had fired. As soon as I held it in my hand for the first time I knew I had chosen wisely and said, "I'll take it."

Well, leroy, I live in San Jose, CA, where CCW is either a dream or an illegal practice. I have no experience with concealed carry, but I am told that with the right set-up it conceals well. The grip is not narrow; I doubt it is narrower than the XD. The grip fills the hand very nicely. I would say CZ's focus regarding the grip thickness was more ergonomically centered than CCW. It is not fat, but just right for the hand. The grip is not long; there's nothing extra below my hand. I think that your question would best be answered by someone like ArmoredMan who has experience carrying this pistol. I'm sure he'll stop by this thread soon.

Thanks, PCRit. I will consider doing the same.

Soft shooting and superbly accurate for a CZ compact.
I've never heard of a P-01 owner going to something else
due to reliability or quality issues.

NITES and a Jackash guide rod will make it even better.
same with some Hakans.

There are also a bunch of holsters to choose from on the market.

Congradulation! You just bought one of the best 9mm gun out there. The CZ PO1 is probably the most talked about gun when referred to the CZ line.

The price is certainly fair for the quality of handgun you are getting. If more people knew about them, we'd be paying SIG prices.

Ssshhhhhhh!!! Don't let the CZ secret out!! Not only do their rifles rock, their pistols do too!! I just ordered a CZ75 Tactical Sport.

I'm not telling anyone, man... I didn't say nuthin.

I'm doing an HK P2000 review right now. It's about the same size as my P-01. I can't even look at the HK while the CZ is in view... because the CZ makes it look like a mud fence, the CZ feels better, and the CZ has a much better (traditional DA/SA) than the HK... in my opinion, its just a better handgun - period. That and I'm put off a bit by the HK's 13 round magazine... for a 9MM, that's about 2 rounds short of what it should be for a gun its size and width. It is an improvement over the USP, but that's another thread. The HK is a lot more money too. The CZ is the way to go between these two.

My PO1 is fast becoming my favorite 9MM. I have Berettas, SIGs, S&Ws and the only one that can give my PO1 a run is my Inox Beretta Cougar. I would be really hard put to choose between them. Good choice for the first gun in so many years!:)

The addiction is about to set in...

Yep pardner, you're ripe for the CZ addiction. I, too, thought just one. I'll let it follow me home. Well it was just the first bite of the apple! Now I've got 7 of them and looking for more!

If you think the P-01 is accurate--and it definitely is--then you just have to see the CZ 97B. This is the most accurate .45 acp you'll ever pull the trigger on!

You are doomed, my friend, doomed!
