Took apart the Hi-power today that I picked up a couple of weeks ago and it was a piece of cake.

Put in all new springs from Wolff. Also put in a +5% mag spring in also.

Only hard one to do was the hammer spring but I got thru it ok.

I could not believe how caked that thing was with gunk.

Got 2 KRD 15 round mags and Hogue finger groove grips from CDNN last week.

She's all cleaned up now and ready for the range.

How did you do it? How do you get the mainspring out? I've got a set of factory springs from Wolf I need to get into a BHP Practical that I bought used. It has FTF problems with Sellior & Bellot ammo-light primer strike about 3 times out of 10.

The mainspring seemed to be the hardest. After I pulled out the hammer assembly I clamped down on the mainspring with a vice. Pushed up on the hammer assembly, screwed down the nut to remove the retaining pin and then unscrewed the nut to remove the spring. Installed the new spring in reverse order.

Just make sure you use a vice with a flat face or no teeth. Even better is one with a protective material like phoenolic. Thats what I have on mine. A material we use in the military.

I even put a lighter trigger spring on. Since its not gonna be used for CCW I figured I'd lighten up the trigger pull a bit.

By the way, Stephen, I got your breakdown cards today. Good quality and easy to follow. Thanks.

OK, Lennyjoe, thanks for the info. Apparently the BHP cannot be stripped down as easily as a 1911. I'm on my way to Stephen's site for a copy of his book.

Many thanks :)

Really?!? I'd better get a 1911. The Hi Power is pretty darned easy to break down, it's just a little tricky to fight 2 springs to get it back together. I haven't messed with the mainspring strut yet, but will soon (on my FEG). When I get some roll pin punches, I'll be taking the slide down as well.

Yep, it's pretty nasty, huh? When I stripped my FEG down, I couldn't believe there was so much stuff in there.
