High Roaders,
I just received a Browning AB3, in .270, from my darling wife for Christmas. I am now going about the task of purchasing mounts and rings for the Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40 scope, which Mrs. Claus also left me under the tree. I have typically used Redfield Jr. 1pc. mounts in the past. My question is whether to go with good ol' Leupold windage adustable mounts or non-adjustable mounts such as dual dovetail or QR mounts. I like being able to get the scope as close to zero with mount adjusts before zeroing with the scope's internal adjustments. I have never mounted a scope on a Browning, but, suspect the receiver mounting screws are drilled/tapped accurately enough not to need adjustable mounts? Any suggestions or recommendations? Browning's own 1 pc., Talley or DMZ aluminum perhaps? I actually like that the "ring" portion of the DMZ mounts, which are milled from bar stock, are concentric without having to use centering fixtures or lapping them in? Thank you for your time, Philip

I have a small scope mounting business and mounted scopes at Cabela’s for two years. I have seen Brownings not drilled and tapped straight but no nearly to the extent I’ve seen Savage and Remington. I’ve not mounted scopes on nearly as many Brownings either so my impression could be skewed.

Some people hate the windage adjustable Leupold STD. rings. I’ve mounted a bunch of them and have a set on a Marlin 336 because the mount holes were drilled off center. DNZ, Talley, Leupold, Burris and Warne all make excellent rings. I use Warne. Use whatever floats your boat. I did quit using two piece bases a while back and started using one piece Picatinny’s. It makes life easier and sometimes is the only way you can position your scope where you want it. Original Weaver rings work great too but I hate using them because it is such a hassle to get the scope level.

CDB, thank you for your experienced suggestions. Actually, I did not even think of picatinny rails, them being more of a tactical application until relatively recently. Although, Weavers are similar and have been around forever. The AB3, being more of a "budget rifle", unfortunately, does not have the coverage the older A bolts and the X bolt do. But, I'll make it work. Thanks again.
