Hey all!
I have a browing auto 5 i use primarily for trap. With the light trap loads, the gun doesnt fully cycle. Im sure i could MAKE it cycle by fiddling with and lubing the friction rings, but its kinda more convienient not fully cycling as i dont have to pick up hulls after they've bounced off my squad-mates. My question is, is it going to damage the gun if it doesnt cycle fully? It fires, blows the bolt back, doesnt quite manage to eject the hull, and the bolt closes again, re-chambering the spent hull. As the bolt isnt falling onto an empty chamber, but just back onto the hull, it seems unlikely that its battering the breechface or anything. Is there any problems shooting it this way, or should i fiddle with it until it ejects the light loads and invest the 15 bucks for a shell catcher?

Thanks!

It aint hurting a thing and making life easier for you also. The friction ring is disapating the recoil from the shell before the bolt gets back to the latching mechanism. Nothing wrong with that. You will feel a big difference on your shoulder if you change the friction rings to light loads or put oil on the mag tube in increased felt recoil. I shoot a "Light 20" in Sporting clays and set my friction rings and very light oil on the tube so the gun just barely cycles for the second shot. Really pleasant to shoot that way. Nick

as long as it doesnt bother you it isnt hurting a thing i use these guns for everything from bunny too deer <i have 7 of them> and i set them up to just barely eject the fired hull
