just found one of these in the local gunshop, in pristine condition for $400, which sounds cheap for a browning. parts were made in belgium, assembled in portugal.

has 2 diamond-like marks on the barrel. modified choke?

also has a port on the left side of the receiver, for inserting a different type of shell than the normal load, as if you went bird hunting and jumped a hog or somesuch.

the back of the receiver kind of looks like the BAR receiver, rather than the A5. never seen one of these in the past, don't know if this is a bargain or overpriced, and am shocked browning made/makes a gun i've not come across in the past.

any experience?

I used to own one in the early 1980's, and have seen several comments on gun forums by users. Most like it okay, a few really liked it.

I couldn't hit that well with mine, but that probably says more about me than the gun. I could do better with several others though.

Good lookin' things, I always thought.

IMO, $400 is a great price if it's in pristine shape, and an OK price with "Character".

I like the 2000. Carries well, shoots well, lasts a long time.

b-2000's are very good guns, reliable, easy (once you get the routine down, they are different from any other gas auto I've seen) to clean, and they run a looong time between cleanings. They are also one of the smoothest recoild autos due to a multi-unit buffer system. Where the 2000 is really different from other autos is its gas and loading system. Unlike most guns where the gas system is located ON the magazine tube, on the 2000 It's IN the mag tube at the very tip, which makes for a slim forend, and a more contained area of fouling. As for the loading system, It uses a side loading gate, the idea being that a righty can keep his hand on the grip and load with the left hand without tilting of inverting the gun, much like a right bolt-left port bolt action rifle. In practice, particularly target shooting, I love the system, once you get used to the foriegne feeling of it, it becomes a much more ergonomic system. The price of $400 is good for excelent condition., but I'd try for 350, but I'm just frugal liker that.:neener:

Bought a used 2000 from a friend a couple of years ago...paid $350 for it...but the price you're looking at ain't bad. The 2000 is a belgian-made Browning....excellent quality o/a.

The two "stars" on the barrel usually indicate modified boring.

If you buy it, and want additional barrels...Jeff's Outfitters, Cape Girardo, Mo, had a quantity on hand, VR and plain, at very reasonable cost. I bought a skeet-choked VR barrel for well under $100.00...and it was new!

Mine shoots really well, with very little recoil. I'm keepin' mine...it was a steal!
