This is my first post here. My Dad gave me a pistol he has had since the early 80’s. He bought it, loaded it, stuck it in a closet and never fired it. A few months ago we finally took it out and fired it. Afterwards he gave it to me. It performed flawlessly, so much so it embarrassed my 1911A1. The gun is a Browning BDA .45. I know this is a Sig P220, but I do have a question. This gun has a European style mag release on the heel. Can I still get extra mags for it? I realize I could have emailed Sig for an answer but I would rather establish a presence on this board because I know I will get more diverse answers. I would really love to hear any information about this weapon.

Welcome aboard Holliday.

I think regular P220 mags will still work in it. Try Mec-Gar mags, as they make factory mags for SIG. If anything you could contact them if I am wrong.

The BDA is a fine handgun. I own both styles of P220s, and can assure you that any newer 220 mag will fit the BDA in .45ACP.

A great new mag on the market is the Novak/ ACT Mag....they are high quality at a low price....~$19.99 per mag. Work flawlessly, supposedly these are made by exemployees of MecGar.

Go here for more 220 mag info:http://home.t-online.de/home/cswimm/sig/sigfaq23.htm

If your gun has the european style heel release for the mag I am afraid the ACT-MAG/Novaks will not work in your gun, though I share agony's enthusiasm for them.
You can indeed use American style mags in your european style gun but they must have the flat metal floorplates, not the new plastic extended floorplates that we all like so much for our American style P220's.
www.cdnninvestments.com usually has some in stock at a reasonable price. :)

B27,
Ohh! I almost forgot about those pesky floor plates. I do stand corrected. :)

Thanks for the answers guys. I already discovered that magazines with pads on the bottom won't work. It's nice to know they still make them without the pads. It's a great gun.

You can ususally find someone selling them in the Classifieds Forum at www.sigforum.com Some of the members there sell a lot of mags and have established reps for being straight shooters.
I see CDNN is out of them right now.

You can use the Sig P-220 7 and 8 round mags that are factory. The only difference is the cutouts on the mag body, for the push button release.

These mags can be found on e-bay and Gunbroker's auction sites. I bought 4 Sig 7 rounders for about 35 dollars from a seller on e-bay and they work great.

I have a Browning BDA/Sig 220 just like yours. Excellent shooter, isn't it? I love mine - it is the most reliable 45ACP pistol I have ever owned and is deadly accurate. I really think that these early Sigs were better made than the new ones I have seen lately. I can work around the European heel mag release for the trade-off in overall quality.

I lucked out...I was searching for a Sig 220 when I stumbled upon my BDA. The small dealer said nobody wanted it, because of the heel release and he had it marked down 200 dollars below a CDNN pre-owned P-220. (funny, because the CDNN piece was nothing special and the minty BDa was a rare bird) Needless to say, the BDA went home with me and I have loved it ever since.

Hang onto that pistol, I have found these to be quite rare. Browning only imported these from 1977-1980...they're not all that common. They made them in 9mm, 45 and 38 Super. The 38 Super is really rare and used ones go for about 2,000 dollars. The 9mms and 45s are still not very common.

Check e-bay and gunbroker...you're bound to find someone selling P-220 factory mags.

Aftermarkets? Well, the only aftermarket pistol mags I half-way like are Wilson's 47Ds for the Colt 1911s. Other aftermarket mags have been a real roll of the dice to me and not worht it. Pro Mag and Mec Gar are in that bunch...the quality of most aftermarket mags is just too spotty.

PS: My BDA/Sig also embarrassed all three of my 1911s, including one highly modified Colt Combat Commander. Actually, the BDA out-shoots just about every 1911 I have ever owned!
