Browning BL-22 thoughts

In 1982 I brought home my first seventh grade report card with straight A's. My Dad took me to a local gun shop and bought me a BL-22. Still have it and will be shooting it tomorrow. It is the last gun I would ever sell.

I recently worked on one that had been in a closet for 25 years and was a rusted mess. I was able to clean it up and make it look better but I could not get all the pits out of the sides of the barrel but I got them reduced greatly.

My biggest fear was getting it back together. It took some trial and error but I got it back together and operating again. I did not remove the lever action from the receiver and the hammer assembly. I did remove the bolt system. This made it easier to get back together. The parts were well made and fit together well. It has earned it's good reputation. kwg

I couldn't ever get past that in actuating the lever, it pulls the butt off of my shoulder. I guess a really sticky pad would've fixed that, but I didn't have the patience.

I have several .22 levers, Marlin 39A, Marlin 97 CL, Winchester 9422, Henry Golden Boy and my newest, a Browning BL-22 Grade II FLD Octagon. The Browning is by far the best made and finished of the batch. It has a 24" Octagon barrel and beautiful wood. With the 24" octagonal barrel, it's more "man-sized" than the 20" barrel models. The size is more Marlin 39 like. The Winchester and Henry have the shorter barrels and so are smaller and don't have the heft of a 24" barrel rifle. I would not hesitate to buy anything made by Miroku. Absolutely top quality and they are great shooters. I've seen people complain about the BL-22's trigger but mine is very nice. Not a complaint in the world about anything Browning sells. YMMV and JMHO

Just so we're not misled by mythical internet blather, what's the actual trigger pull weight of a recently-manufactured BL-22? Can somebody put a trigger pull gauge on one and let us know?

I checked my Bl-22, 3 pulls, with an electronic gauge, they gauged 4.86, 5.0, 4.88. Mine is 3 months old, Gr II FLD Octagon. YMMV. I'm happy with mine.

I find semi-buckhorn sights to be useless to my eyes, was thinking of putting a Skinner peep on the BL-22, ring sights just seem to work better for me.

Has anyone tried the Skinner or have other suggestions?
