I recently acquired a Ruger Hawkeye in 358 Winchester and really like the cartridge, but as a lefty I'm not a great fan of the rifle itself. I see that Browning makes the BLR in 358 and as a lever gun it's a bit more ambidextrous that my bolt gun is.

Do any of you own the BLR and if so what is your opinion of it? It's a quite expensive gun compared to the typical bolt rifle I own, so I would like to get some opinions before I consider dropping around $800 for a hobby gun.

TIA for any advice or comments.

I can't give you advise on the new ones, I can tell however that I have an older BLR81 with the steel receiver. It's a very nicely finished rifle and quite accurate.

I have a BLR Lightweight '81 Takedown in .358 Win. Really like it, excellent fit and finish, and nicely balanced. The MSRP from the Browning website is over a grand. The trigger isn't exactly crisp, however, it is golden. ;)

I have an older pre 81 all steel. It's a strong modern action. I don't care for the newer alum. receiver ones. I mounted a scope for a friend on his new model and I found the stock to be much too long for me, unlike my pre 81.
