I came across a very nice BT99 today I can't seem to get off my mind. This has 99% metal, 98% wood. It fits me like a glove. Has an installed extended Light Modified choke, probably Invector.

I really don't shoot a lot of trap anymore but after handling this one, I think I'd be excited to get out more often.

Any reason to avoid the BT99? The shop wants $850 for it.

Oh I would buy that. I shoot trap with a BT99. A borrowed gun from my son. Long story, but my dad gave it to him.

I am looking to purchase my own after this season is done.

Not sure the story of the gun you describe and how long been at shop. $800? $825. Full price $850.

I would purchase if not a fixed choke. Need full or improved modified for trap.

I have been shooting in a trap league for three plus years. Those that have them in the league seem to really like them.

$850 seems like the going price these days for a well maintained bt99. This one sounds top shelf. A 32" barrel would be a plus.
Considering the current NIB prices I don't think you can loose on the gun. I say go for it.

Trap doubles needs an O/U. So does shooting handicap from the 27 yard line. Just switch to the top barrel that has the full choke screwed in already. Bottom barrel has I/M in it. The 99 i shot didnt fit and kicked like a mule. Also made a rattling noise when fired.

Its a single shot.

Shoot skeet with an o/u, just screw in skeet chokes . Then you also have sporting clay to shoot. May need a second shot hunting? :D

99

I have a BT-99. Have had it for years. It is a dedicated gun meant for Trap singles only (and you do not need an O/U for handicap. 16 yards or 27, you still get one shot only). The 99 is a well made competitive gun, built to last. It is a million round gun.
It is much more gun than I like to carry hunting the uplands....not the length but the weight. I like my hunting guns to be well under seven pounds. I frequently hunt with a 16 gauge flintlock fowler...also a single shot. My experience in the PA uplands is that you get one shot at the bird.

i shoot a BT-100 and bought it used and don,t know how many rounds were fired before i got it. i have fired over 20,000 shells thru it with out any FTF-FTE and could sell it for more than i paid for it years ago. around here brownings are the king of the hill on the local trap-skeet- SC ranges, that doesn,t mean its the same at other trap-skeet SC ranges, but you can bet browning shotgun will be there. eastbank.

I'd snap that up, good deal on a great Trap gun. I love BT-99's; never owned one, but have shot several, and I always shoot them well. I am getting back into Trap next year, after teaching it for 4-H this year; I realized how much I missed it. I won't be able to pick up a BT-99 for a while, but I will be on the lookout...

In the meantime, it will be fun shooting 23's and 24's with my pistol-gripped 870 Tactical. (With a 28" and Turkey Full in it.)

If I were getting back into shooting trap, (used an O/U for years), I would seriously consider getting a dedicated trap gun like the BT99 you found (at a decent price too).

If the gun fits you, buy it. A lot of folks I shot trap with in the company league used BT-99s and from what I saw they're solid guns.
