... trading a Kahr K9 and a CZ 452 for one.

You probably can"t do it, but you can try ... just for fun.

(My primary handgun just appeals more,
is more comfortable to carry, and is perfectly adequate.
The CZ just isn't working for me: bolt action and too long.)

The Browning Buck Mark Rifle is the .22 I'm lusting for.
Way sexier than the CZ.

"...this little Browning has 'Squirrel gun' written all over it!"

What say you?

Totally different gun! But very very beautiful. I allways wanted one. My grandfather had the high grade one, and was going to give it to me in his will but I think one of the other relatives stole it when he died and sold it. I rember shooting it when I was like 10 and I'm 49 now.

Simply put---I had a carbon fiber one and it was a POS---Buckmarks in general are junk and don't deserve the Browning name.

Save your money and get something better.

But get the carbon fiber one
Sniper, I can't find reference to a "carbon fiber" version anywhere.

Any hints?

This little rifle has captured my imagination. I can't seem to quit thinking about it. It's my desktop image.

Lee, I hear you, but something about this gun has my attention, and won't let go.

OBG, what specifically about yours made you characterize it as a POS?

You want sexy???
You want Browning???
You're 99% of the way there Nema...

To my way of thinking, Browning's slim little SLR in .22 has always been the epitome of what a good looking, small, sleek .22 caliber squirrel/plinking rifle ought to be. They are not cheap however. Reloading is... fun. Check out the new grey laminated stock w/ octagonal barrel (price  ) So keep saving.

(Not to be negative but now working the other angle of talking you out of something... and I'm not gonna work too hard at it :p )...The Buckmark (ahem) rifle looks more like the 007 secret agent toys I had as a kid back in the 60's where you could assemble a spy's rifle from a kit of parts. True, was cool when I was in the 5th grade... and I DO like my Buckmark pistola... but for the price of only 3 or 4 of those, you could get a really fine little Japanese made semi-auto rifle with classical design aesthetics which has zero "tactical" aesthetic factor built in.

Bumpity bump

I can't stop thinking about Buckmark rifles.

Well, that's not quite true.

I'm thinking a fair amount about levers and revolvers, too.

After an afternoon and evening of reading,
I've pretty much decided that a
SW 686 in .357 mag (4", 6 shot)
is going to be my next handgun.

<Lust factor 9, Mr. Sulu.>

Using digital imagery, I've discovered that, except for a 2" longer barrel,
its shape is virtually identical to my 642, which fits my hand perfectly.

Honing in on a toolkit for a modern nomad.
(Speaking only for myself, of course.)

Right now, the list is:

870P for camp defense and birds (w/ longer barrel).
336A for deer-sized critters and hogs.
686 for moderate-sized critters (some with sharp teeth) @ < 30 m.
642 for UCP (up close and personal).
BBM for small game to 50 m.
________

Say, have you ever listened to The Mars Volta?

Their music seems to match the intensity of our time.

I recommend "Deloused in the Comatorium" for starters.
(Not for the faint of heart or Lawrence Welk fans.)

A slightly different toolkit for a modern nomad

I've changed my mind.

Due to a combination of LOTS of reading, opinions from people in other threads, the fact that I'd like my .22 carbine to "match" my Marlin 336A in .30-30, and other considerations, I've effectively talked myself out of a Browning Buckmark rifle.

For the .22 carbine, I've decided, instead, to go with a Marlin 39A with a barrel cut and crowned to 16" or 18".

Here's the list (with image) of my current dream toolkit of five guns for the modern nomad to do most every thing I need to do.

870P for camp defense and birds (w/ longer barrel).
336A for deer-sized critters and hogs.
Marlin 39A (w/ 18" barrel) for small game to 50 m.
686 for moderate-sized critters (some with knives or antlers) @ < 30 m.
642 for UCP (up close and personal).
