I am considering buying a Browning Buck Mark Camper and would like to know if this is a good choice for a first gun for target and plinking. The price is reasonable and I need something to shoot while I wait for a Uberti 1851 Colt Navy which I have on order (6-9 months delivery in Canada).:banghead:

I have one in stainless with the FO sight. Love it. I was tossing between a Ruger Mk III target model and this one. I liked the fit and feel of the Browning and the lack of complicity in the design. Ultimately, It came down to the fact that stripping the browning doesn't require the amount of information as the Ruger. My brother has a Ruger and he has to consult the manual every time he needs to clean his gun.

The Buckmark Camper is my daughters' favorite range gun (and their friends as well). That big ol' fiber optic green dot front sight just seems to jump out at you, and the recoil is negligible. They're all surprisingly accurate with it, which encourages more practice. Best $249 I've ever spent (back in 2003).

You can never go wrong with a Buckmark....we take ours whenever we visit the range to relax after the big bores. Well in excess of 7k rounds with only Remington ammo jamming occasionally....Federals have been flawless. As mentioned, very easy to clean, simple to operate, and accurate to boot!

Much more reliable than our Ruger Mk III and worlds-better than our Mosquito reliability!

How does it feel in your hand? If it feels good and the sights line up "naturally" for you when you bring it up and point it in a safe direction, I'd say go for it. Buckmarks have a good reputation.

I went with the Ruger MkIII 22/45. I liked the balance and the slim grip. I have no trouble stripping/reassembling it for cleaning, but I did have to consult the manual the first couple of times.

All my best,
Dirty Bob

I bought a Buck Mark just a few weeks ago. Practical URX. I would say go for it. Like millertyme, I was deciding between the Ruger and the Browning. I took it up the range once with my brother, and I think I may have gotten him into shooting. It's a great gun for spending some time at the range, and a great gun for getting others into shooting. IMHO of course.
Happy Fourth.

I like mine. I picked it over the Ruger because of the horror stories about Ruger disassembly. And I don't regret the choice, although I do have a slight preference for shooting the Ruger: It just fits my hand a little better.

It's the best possible choice. I could go on for days about the awesomeness of the Buckmark, but I'll just say this...

GET IT. You'll have no regrets.

+1 on the buckmark. I find it balances better than bull-barrel Rugers, and the software is usually the biggest limiter in its accuracy. Great all around guns.

what c919 said, plus

!!YES!!

My first pistol, the first gun I ever bought myself, and still the best thing in the safe.

You'll love it!

I have to admit I was bad about cleaning mine for the first several years (read: not at all) I had no repercussions though I don't recommend it...

I own one (got it two years ago) and absolutely love it. It has been accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot -- a great range companion. Only wish that I had a can for it, as does PY -- maybe I'll add one some day.

+1 No regrets.

++1. I bought a new Buckmark target model two weeks ago, and it's hands-down the most accurate .22 pistol I've ever owned. It was so accurate, that today I mounted a Millett scope on it.

Now that I think about it, I've NEVER been sorry I bought or traded into a Browning, and I have uniformly regretted every single one I let go of.
