I recently acquired a mint Buckmark Target model from my LGS. I took it and the GF to the range and she immediately decided it was hers, I'm OK with that. The only problem is she's having a difficult time racking the slide. Any advice or something I can do to help her with the issue? BTW, we have several semi-auto pistols and this is the only one she has any trouble operating.

Surprised to hear that, I'd consider the Buckmark to be the easiest of my autos to rack. Does she try to do it hand over fist like if doing a speed reload? Have you been dry firing it so the hammer is forward and adding resistance? Don't dry fire a .22, it will damage the firing pin!

For women I think it's easier for them to rack it if they extend both arms out, pushing the grip forward strong hand while pulling the slide backward weak hand, as if you were holding a piece of paper out at arms length and ripping it in half.

Isn't there something (accessory) to go on the back of the slide to make it easier to rack? Seems like I remember seeing something at one time.......

It can be stiff if you have dropped the hammer. So don't! I dry-fire the dickens out of my centerfires, but it's a no-no with rimfires.

And rimfire hammer springs tend to be pretty stout. They have to be to reliably crush the rim and set off the rounds.

Thanks for the input, the "ears" may be the answer. I'll call Browning on Monday

If either of the top screws have loosened, the slide will bind and cause difficult operation and eventually malfunction.

My 11-year-old daughter racks mine easily. Maybe yours is malfunctioning?

I have one with and one without the ears. The ears definitely help, but the suggestion to leave the pistol cocked may be the answer. Decocked, (stored with a snap cap), is harder to rack than cocked in my older URX. Doesn't seem as tight in my newer Field 5.5 (with ears).
