Browning Buckmark What Problems.

Well I've been reading all about the finicky Browning Buckmarks, and the shoddy QC coming from the factory, however I just finished my second brick of .22LR (1000 rounds) without cleaning.

Needless to say the gun never had a hiccup in all those rounds, now note I shot Remington 22 Thunderbolt, Remington Target, Remington Golden Bullet, CCI Mini-Mag, Winchester Wildcats, Winchester Dyna-Points, Federal Gold Medal, as well as Federal .22LR Copper plated HP. Quite a variety I might add, maybe I just lucked out and got a good one. Incidentally the trigger is as good as any I've done with Timney, or any of the high dollar after market triggers on the market.

Also talk about accurate at least out to 25 yards, now that is the SS 5" bull barrel Camper Model. It just don't get no better than this.:D
 
Zero failures with mine. They're the most fun you can have with your clothes on. :neener:

Those seem to be the most common complaints.... from the Ruger fans. ;)


Ive tried about 6 different ammo's in mine. 4 of the 6 were the cheapest 50 round packs from Wally.

Never a hiccup. I didn't clean it first either.

Go figure.

Huh? (I don't mean that rudely; I am simply surprised by that statement.) Mine has over eight bricks of bulk .22s through it. I have had maybe a dozen FTEs, sure, but I think that's acceptable.

My friend's Buckmark has somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 through it, and he's had to replace a single spring. It cost him $2, if I recall correctly.

From what I can tell, they're pretty reliable pistols.
 
I've owned my basic slabsides Buckmark for ~15 years I think. Can't recall what I've shot thru it, but I've fired everything I've gotten my hands on that's .22lr.

Never really cleaned it either, although I've shot some brake cleaner into it from time to time and pass a Bore Snake thru it, then I oil the slide rails. That's it.

I also neglect to care for my Ruger MKII bull barrel as well. Never really cleaned it either.

I'm waiting for one of them to eventually fail, but it's been over 10 years for both so far...
 
Buckmark

I've had a plain Jane buckmark for a long time (20 years more or less) I guess I've shot 2,000-3,000 rounds through it. I'm always amazed at how accurate it is and I've never had a malfunction.
 
I bought a new Buckmark last year. The only problem I had was when the sight screws would work loose. Little bit of loctite later and she runs like a champ.
 
Watch out for the right side grip screws shooting loose enough for the trigger bar to come off. Avoid the temptation to attempt to fix it where you can lose small parts and springs in the weeds.

The ejector wire can get bent leading to ejection failures (stovepipes).

And has already been mentioned the two take down screws can come loose.
 
Both me and my wife's Buckmarks are rock solid reliable. They have eaten all the cheap, bulk ammo we have fed them with the exception of a single dud Rem GB. I think the workmanship is exceptional for the price point. Great triggers out of the box, wonderful URX/UFX grips and more accurate than I'm able take advantage of. No complaints here.
 
I have 2. Both have been flawless.

Only problem I had was with one box of cheap Remington ammo. Not the guns problem. 3 rounds failed to fire out of 50. Tried them twice. No bang. Also tried them in a rifle. Still no bang.
 
I have one, and get an FTF maybe every 4-500 rounds. I shoot mainly Blazer and Federal.

Fun little gun.
 
I haven't really heard much about them being finicky either...

But I absolutely love mine. It was super accurate even with the regular sights and I never had a problem with the top sight base screws working loose, even with the standard plastic one that comes with the camper. I have since put a TRS-25 red dot on top of which, which necessitated replacing the plastic with a metal rail anyway. The thing is FUN!
 
I had one that went back to the factory twice. I dumped it. The first trip was for an off center front sight, the second time was after the barrel replaced I was getting multiple FTF, FTE, etc. yes the screws were tight and correctly installed. Got it back a second time and still a jammomatic. I'm contemplating picking up another to give it another try.
 
the only thing i don't like about the buckmark is they are significantly louder to the shooter than others 22 of equal barrel length regardless of action.

loud like shooting a naa 22lr w/ 1 inch barrel.
 
The biggest drawback to owning a Buckmark is that it's hard to stop shooting it once you start. A range trip with one can be an all-day affair.

It's good that guns can't be jealous of each other for not getting shot as much--if they could, my other pistols would be green over my Buckmark.
 
I have a Camper model I bought used for $200. Seller told me it was dirty, but it was really filthy. I bought several minor parts for it from Midway and basically rebuilt it, and it seems to function wonderfully now. I have too many guns and not enough range time, so it doesn't get used enough. I really need to play with it more.
 
I got a Camper model several years ago. It malfunctions every couple of mags or so. I finally broke down and sent it to Browning. Came back - 100% ever since.
 
Here's what you need to do with the Buckmark to keep it running:
Clean it reasonably often.
Keep the top strap screws nice and tight.

That's really it. The gun is a phenomenal to shoot. In the first two weeks I had my Camper, I put 800 rounds through it. It's probably got over 6K rounds through it now in its lifetime. I'm very happy with it.
 
Actually... The cheaper camper models with the plastic sight piece. Word for years was that if you tightened that screw too much, it would break while shooting. I don't tighten that too much.
 
My Micro Buckmark is my utility rimfire. I've carried it on my traplines, in the bottom of a canoe camping and it sits by the back door for varmints. It's taken a beating and still goes bang on demand. It has at least 8000 rds through it with no issues.

As much as it gets used I should take better care of it.
 
If you have grip screws coming loose, put an o-ring on the screw. Also, check out rimfire central forum. There is a whole sub forum just for Brownings.
