On another outdoor forum, there is a gentleman who claims that his Buckmark shot well over the summer but come cold weather he has a lot of problems with FTE's. He is getting advice that because it is a tightly fitted gun, if he uses a bullet with a wax coating he can fully expect this to be the case in cold weather.
I don't buy that. I don't own a Buckmark, but my contention is that if that guns is PROPERLY maintained and lubed with a QUALITY product like BreakFree or MiliTec, there is no reason the gun should malfunction with any regularity. This brings me to two questions. One, do you agree with my thoughts on this, and two, those of you who own Buckmarks, what type of reliability do you get and do you find them fussy about ammo, temperature ect? THANKS!

My Buckmark runs perfectly with good ammunition. I have not had problems with it when cold or hot or anything else. With cheap ammunition you get what you pay for and pay for it with poor performance . I would bet the guy having problems is trying to use cheap Remington shells.

I don't have any problems with my Buckmark, even with the cheapest ammunition. Of course, it doesn't really get that cold down here. Even so, I really don't think wax coated bullets would be a solution for that problem.

Par for the course-----the 2---count em 2--Buckmarks---were the worst pieces of junk I've ever had the displeasure of owning----not worthy of the Browning name.

The Raven I had was a better gun even-----but I only paid $25 bucks for that junker.

So problems with a Buckmark is no surprise at all.

Wow OBG!!

My shooting buddies and I put at least 1000 rounds per week through 3 different Buckmarks and have not had problem one. Mine has 80K + rounds through it without a single problem. I am VERY surprised to hear what you said. I treat mine pretty poorly and still it just keeps on eating ammo, without a doubt the BEST 22 pistol I have ever had or been around and I have had at least a dozen 22 pistols.

My BuckMarks don't suffer from cold weather, but I only have four different pistols to base that on. :p

I'll be selling my Buckmark as soon as I get around to it (life is so demanding  ) because it has become a single shot firearm. The connector thingy (I forget what it's real name is) isn't working properly and the trigger never gets reset. And, no, it's not because it hasn't been cleaned or maintained. I always clean after a day at the range.

It just happens to be a hunk o' junk. I agree: not worthy of the Browning name.

Nope, it's Ruger or Beretta for the replacement.

I have a Challenger III which is the immediate predecessor to the Buckmark. Same in all respects and even takes Buckmark mags. Mine works well with the cheapest of ammo. Now and then I get a FTE with the cheap ammo but it is because of the ammo, not the gun. I have tens of thousands of rounds through mine with only a handful of malfunctions. Whoever is telling him this is just speculating or got a lemmon. If the gun is clean and properly lubed, it should be almost 100%.

I've had a lot of FTE's with my Buckmark Micro, which I cleared via ensuring that I always had a coat of VERY light oil (and no grease) on the slide rails, and by polishing the chamber with 0000 stainless steel wool.

I've only shot my Buckmark down to about 25-degrees, but the function was no worse and no better in the colder weather. In both cases, the accuracy and ergonomics are near excellent, and the functioning is acceptable for a .22 auto pistol--probably about one easily-remedied failure to eject about every 150 rounds or so, using cheap ammo. I like the gun.

I've got a Buckmark and a Ruger Mark II. Neither seem to be very sensative to weather or ammunition. The Buckmark is the better shooter of the two but is also the newer of the two.

While both eat cheap ammo with little trouble, you do get what you pay for.

My Buckmark 5.5 bull has always been 100%. I have never fired it in the extream cold but one trip to the range which is like 50 miles away, soon as I got there it started to pour. I wasn't going to pull out a match garand in the rain. So I pulled out the .22 and went through a box before my socks were wet. It didn't hang up once.

Accurate too. very accurate

I have a 5.5 Nickle Target that's, oh, about 7 years old now. I've put 3-4 thousand rounds through it in that time and the only troubles I've ever had is if I've let the magazines get too dirty, ammo with bad primers, or not being able to find the allen wrench to take it down for it's occasionally thurough cleaning.
