Browning Hi-Power enthusiasts opinion of the .40 model?

The thicker slide of the .40 feels off to me. I am not a big .40 fan; but I considered taking a .40 and converting it to 9mm (the idea being to have an even more durable Hi-Power); but the balance is just all wrong to me.

I love the HP, never had one in .40 though. Have owned several in 9mm and currently own two.
Like others have said the balance changes and the 20lb spring just doesn't feel right TO ME.
That said, I've handled and shot them. A deputy sheriff friend of mine carries one, and he loves it.
Nothing at all wrong with them, and FN made the changes necessary to accomadate the more powerful round.
I just prefer the original chambering. If I want a bigger round, I move up to a .45 in a 1911. :)

I own 2 of the BHP's in .40. Originally we got the first one for my wife. She has tiny midget hands but the BHP works well for her, grip wise.

The BHP .40 is AWESOME. It is one of the best made .40's out there and the first gun that was really properly engineered for the .40 as opposed to just shoehorning a larger engine into an existing chassis with minimal or no mods.

The BHP has a different heavier slide (3oz, almost a 1/4 pound more weight in the slide). It also has a heavier springs. This gun is well engineered for the round.

It is accurate too.

If you like the BHP and you like the .40 it is a great way to go.

My wife's main pistols are .40 cal because she only has a few guns and they need to be multi-purpose and able to deal with 4 legged threats.

My pistols were either 10mm for 4 legged threats or 9mm for 2 legged.

So, I prefer the 9mm and I like the Mec-gar 15rd flush fit mags for the BHP in 9mm.

But, if you do like .40, the BHP in .40 is pretty fantastic.

I don't even consider the 40S&W version a Hi Power.

I don't like the 40S&W to begin with and I absolutely hate seeing it chambered in classic 9mm pistols.

Not as svelte as the 9mm,but a pretty nice gun.Yes,the recoil spring is heavier and a bit harder to retract. I have a silver(matte nickle??) finished one and it has been flawless.
But with the cost of ammo I shoot my 9mm more. However, during the ammo crunch it was "easier" to find .40 S&W than 9mm. I would buy another one if the price was right.

The BHP is one of those guns that I own & love in 9mm but never cared for in .40S&W. The CZ 75B is another one where I love my 9mm and hated the .40S&W Duo-tone I had. The Sig P226 .40 S&W and the H&K full size USP in .40 are 2 that I own & prefer over the same guns in 9mm. And since I got the Gen4 G-21 the Gen4 G-22 doesn't get out to the range as much.
