I have a Browning High Power in 9mm S/N 245NX848XX with a tang sight that flips up to 500 meters/yards. It has never been fired, don't know much about it.

Are tang sights common? Any added/lower value to the gun? Should I be lobbing shots down range or does the unfired have any value?

Does the sight look like this one?

If it has the tangent sights and is slotted for a stock then it's one of the less common configurations, though I don't know much more than that.

It is a 90s era Capitan Hi-Power - basically a kind of retro new production designed to look like the original Hi-Powers. They were marketed as a collector version with a slightly higher price; but I don't know if the market value held on them.

The "NX" letters in the serial number indicate that it was manufactured in 1993, if I am not mistaken. FN uses a letter dating system kind of like the German codes, except instead of A-K they use a rather less obvious system ranging from M-Z (Z = 1, and so on) with several letters omitted.

What they said, "245" means commercial production, "NX" would be 1993. These have been selling in the $700-900 range. $700 if you really need to sell it, most actually seem to actually sell around $800-850.
