7 3/4 lb. for the lightest version?
That's as heavy as or heavier than most full-size 12 Gauge field guns.
Not much to worry about. It has a big recoil pad.
My standard BT-99 pad was damaged, so I replaced it with a Limbsaver. Recoil, schmecoil. Gra-coils and such are effective, but they also change the balance of the gun dramatically. Limbsaver works fine for me, and it's cheap, too. My shoulder never feels a thing.
I shoot handloaded 1 oz. at 1250 or so as my standard trap load. Were it not for my club-mates' penchant for masochism, 27-yard and progressive wobbles, I'd shoot a lighter load. 1 oz. at 1145 is fine for American Trap until you get behind the 23.
Hell, some people shoot low-velocity loads at 27, but that's too much conscious adjustment for my taste. I want a progressive to be a no-brainer, with natural leads.
