I like mine, very rugged construction, easy opening, and the most positive liner lock I have seen.
This is not a knife you will skin game with. The front bevel of the tanto point has the blade geometry of a brick chisel. Good for stabbing, not much else. I recontoured mine severly, now it is a good deal sharper. Overall it holds an edge well, just never going to be as sharp as a thin blade with a low angle edge. Carried it for a year with no signs of wear. A must do mod is to hit all the edges of the scales on a belt sander for a little radius, as delivered it is not a comfortable handful.
Skunkabilly, they make folders as well. They came out well before the fixed blade. There were four: Large Tanto and Spearpoint, Small Tanto and Spearpoint (what I have).
Like I said, I have the small spearpoint model. It's stout knife and holds an edge very well. Even though it's not designed for slicing, it does so reasonably well. Even when it doesn't feel sharp, it'll shave hair and slice paper like a much thinner blade.
QC tends to be spotty based on my experience and posts I've read. The biggest issues are the blade not being centered and having some side to side play that can't be adjusted out. Mine had both. I sent it back to Buck and they mostly fixed it within a couple weeks. I say mostly because the blade is still slightly offcenter, but it no longer rubs the liners. The play is eliminated though.
It's a good knife if you want one that will handle abuse with ease. It's not a "gentleman's" knife or a particularly refined knife. It's a knife for cuttin', pryin', and abusin'.
