So, I have done about all the hunting that I can do here in Texas, but I have never traveled very far to hunt. I was wondering what types of hunts y'all have been on that you feel are worthy of being considered "bucket list hunts"? Or what hunts you have on your own bucket list?

I'm not just talking about animal, but also location, and the means of harvesting it (rifle, shotgun, bow, etc).

Hopefully this can make for a good thread and give me some stuff to look forward to, thanks!

bucketlist hunts... after a lot of thinking I think that top 5 would be
1. alaskan moose hunt
2. alaskan kodiak hunt
3. english stag hunt.
4. Idaho big horn sheep hunt
5. alaska mountain goat hunt.

Supposedly next year for my 30th birthday, the wife said I could go to Africa...

I really want to hunt a cape buffalo, its a dream of mine for a very long time, but generally speaking hunting warthog, kudu, impala, and just about all of the african plains game is on my bucket list.

If you have not hunted elk in Colorado or Utah or Wyoming, you ought to. Even if you only do it once, it's something you'll never forget.

Wow, these are some great ones!

Any game worth going after with a bow?

My next dream hunt is stalking Caribou in Alaska with my bow :) (I kinda dream big ;))

Bucket list hunts that I've done and will do again if able.

1. Cow elephant in a herd in thick cover. Without a doubt the most dangerous adrenaline filled hunting on the planet.

2. Cape buffalo is tame compared to cow elephant but can get real western real fast.

3. Inland Mt Grizzly or coastal brown bear.

4. Mt goat is one of my new favorites.

5. Mt lions with dogs during the deep winter in the high Rockies. Followed closely by black bear with hounds.

6. Any high altitude Mt game animal sheep, goat, tar, chamois ETC.

7. Elk anywhere but especially in the High Rockies in the fall.

8. Alaskan Yukon Moose during the rut.

9. Barren ground Caribou during the migration.

10. Free range Barbary sheep in either Texas or NM.

11. Quality African Plains game hunting. In particular kudu, nyala, and blue wildebeest. I know I'm crazy, but I love shooting blue wildebeest I also have an affinity for pajama donkeys.

12. If you haven't done it a quality pronghorn hunt must be on your list.

13. Another one that if you've never tried it you should is calling black bear with a predator call. Ohhh yes that is fun!

Bucket list hunts that either I haven't done or have and haven't connected on.

1. Giant Forrest hog.

2. Yukon moose with a bow during the rut.

3. Rocky Mt big horn and a desert bighorn sheep.

4. A trophy whitetail. Once again I've killed plenty but never a really big one.

5. Archery Muskox

6. New Zealand Bull Thar.

7. Dwarf forest buffalo.

8. A roan

9. A sable

10. A good bush buck.

That ought to be enough to keep my plate full and my bank account empty for the rest of my life!

A dove/pidgeon hunt in Argentina has been on the list for a while maybe in 2014 when I reach another round number.
Next year it is Caribou with my old huntin bud in AK.
Probably not much to you folks up North but a Phesant hunt would be high on the list as well.

When I went to Israel (for a class, not to hunt) we stopped off at ein gedi (sp?) which is roughly translated "spring of the goats." It's an oasis in the middle of the desert near the dead sea. I didn't ask but I'm HIGHLY doubtful that one could ever hunt there... but the fact that we went there and I didn't see one got me really thinking about hunting Ibex in some deserted mountain that's ridiculously hard to traverse. Thus, in addition to Wyoming pronghorn, my bucket list hunt is to go to some place that DOES allow hunting Ibex.

New Mexico offers free range Ibex hunting in the Florida Mts. near Deming, NM. That would be your cheapest and easiest route. As far as foreign hunting destinations for Ibex there are opportunities in Turkey, Spain, Russia, Iran, Mongolia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. I know of folks who've hunted them Afghanistan as well but at the moment that might be a bit to exciting.

And I'm sure that I am missing some others locations as well. The point being that Ibex are very available and hunted very commonly in many regions of the world.

I would love to get a coastal Brown bear, or I'd even settle for a mtn. Grizzly, just to be there in their home habitat, and the chase, see that beautiful country, man a once in a life time adventure for sure. Got a big bucket to fill huh?

1. Alaskan Kodiak Bear hunt - Mosin M44 - Ground Stalk
2. African Warthog - .44 Mag Revolver/spears - Stalk/dogs
3. Texas Bison - .50 muzzleloader - ground stalk

303tom,
It's not that I can't but that I got a late start and I really don't know where to start. I have been doing a bunch of reading and research, so hopefully next year I will have some to write about.

This is a great thread. I like any thread that makes me sit back and reflect. I have always wanted to hunt the following:

wart hog with rifle
cape buffalo with rifle
black bear with rifle
whitetail deer with a bow
wild boar with bow
rabbit with a bow

For me, in all honesty, every hunt I manage to go on is a bucket list experience. My bucket list isn't what and where to hunt, but rather to remain physically able to hunt for a lifetime, whereever, whenever and however I choose.

Actually me too!! Good point old man!@;)

Heres my "short List"
1. A rifle hunt in Alaska for just about anything, probably Moose or Carribou.

2. One more Bow hunt for whitetail in my former home state of Wisconsin.

3. Rifle hunt for big bull elk in Montana, or Idaho with a good outfitter, horseback, wall tents, camp cook, the works.

4. South Dakota pheasant hunt.

5. Rifle hunt for wild hogs any place that has lots of em.

6. Wyoming Pronghorn hunt with a rifle. (might make this one next fall).

I could go on and on but I'm already 60, my buckets not that big. ;)

Top of the list is to head to Alaska and get Moose, Grizzly, Caribou and Wolf.
The rest:
  • Rocky Mountain Elk
  • NE Trophy whitetail hunt
  • Pronghorn in Wyoming
  • Bighorn - Rocky Mountains
  • Red Stag in New Zealand (guided, free range)
The Elk hunt has been on my list for a while now. I've been hunting on my uncle's land in Nebraska and I know they have some huge deer down there and I'd like to do a trophy solo hunt down there some time. I've got a connection that could get me a pronghorn hunt in Wyoming so that is also high on my list. Those Red Stags are probably some of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen pics of so I'd love to hunt them some day.
