Agreed, Witt, on dropping the charge. When I make up ultralight 6 pellet 00 loads, it works out to about 3/4 oz and I use data right from the Hodgdons' site for that weight. More speed would add some energy but increase the likelyhood of errant pellets.
 
I would highly recommend not using any kind of reloaded ammo of any kind in a defensive firearm. Could lead to bad ju ju if you ever have to use it. Stick to store bought, commercial ammo for HD or personal protection.
 
Jeff, they were for research only. My "serious" shotguns are loaded with old Estate RR 00.

The 6 pellets approach is viable, still plenty of moxie but easy for non shotgunners to handle. But, not manufactured commercially so a bad idea for the reasons given.
