Good morning, fellow High Roaders.

First, let me say that I did do a search, and did not find any threads on this topic. If I missed one or more, please post the link, and I'll go do some reading.

Having said that- I am looking for thoughts on purchasing a budget double barrel shotgun. My use would include perhaps shooting skeet a couple times per year, and occasional bird hunting. I would not be competing, so I am thinking 100-150 rounds per year.

Some of the ones I have seen that would be close to budget are:
Charles Daly model 306
Mossberg Silver Reserve
Savage Stevens Gold Wing over/under (same as Model 512?)
CZ Mallard over/under
Remington SPR-310 O/U
Remington SPR-210 SxS
Escort (Legacy Sports) O/U

I believe I have also seen a brand called Stoeger at Dick's Sporting goods.

This is not meant to be a comprehensive list, just some that I have seen. I would appreciate folks giving me some feedback on their knowledge and experience regarding these or other shotguns that fall in this price range.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Bob

I'm really liking my Yildiz 12 ga O/U. Comes with 5 chokes, very nice wood, action is really nice and smooth after about 300 rounds. For the amount of use you describe, it should last for a loooong time.

It has an alloy receiver (Marketing speak for Aluminum), black chrome finish inside and out on the barrels, auto select trigger, and auto ejectors.

For $399.00 this is hard to beat. I am using it for sporting clays, skeet, etc.

I don't have any experience with the others. I have looked at the Savage Gold Wing a couple of times and it looks solid to me. The ones I have seen have extractors, and I prefer ejectors, but other than that they look pretty good. I have heard good stuff about the Baikals (Remington SPR).
