Budget pump gun

My HomeLand Security*** shotgun is a Maverick 88 with the 18-1/2" barrel.

*** Secures my Home & Land from those of felonious intent.

I just saw a brand new Maverick 88 at Wally World for $199. Looked like the 20" barrel. Been around long enough to prove it's dependability. If you wait until it goes on sale it could be cheaper.

Here locally you can find used Remington 870s and Mossberg 500s/Maverick 88s for under 200 bucks. IME a much better choice than the various clones.

Just my .02,

I'm going to try and find a used 870 or a Maverick 88, then put a pistol grip stock on it like the Stevens 320 I linked to earlier. The way I will have it mounted on my pack almost demands a stock with that style of grip for getting it quickly while wearing the pack. Not the best way to mount, but it's the only viable option with the ruck I'm using right now :/

Thank you all again for the help, in one month I'll have enough saved up to purchase this firearm, and I can't wait :D

+1 for the Mav 88. It was my first gun, still have it. Rugged, dependable, made in the USA. Parts are interchangeable (with a few exceptions) with the Mossberg 500. Can be had new for less than $200.

Next choice would be the Mossberg 500.

Following that would be an older used Remington 870.

And because I have no experience with anything else in the pump gun world, Ithaca and Winchester varieties would follow on my given advice list.

RE: pistol grip stocks. I personally am not a fan of Pistol Grip Only (PGO) stocks. Just do a quick forum search for PGO and you'll see a mixed response to them, but mostly in the negative.

I have a pistol grip adjustable stock for my Mav 88. Looks bitchin', but in all honesty, I hated it and put the factory stock back on. Getting a decent cheek weld is hard, but not impossible. More tacticool than actually useful.

USAF_Vet, I'm not a fan of those PGO's either. Maybe if the firearm had to be swung around in a really tight space, I can see their use for that situation. But I'd much rather have that shoulder support.

I've decided on the Maverick 88, most likely one of those with 28" barrels and regular stock. I can always buy the shorter security barrel and pistol grip stock after a few more paychecks. Maybe the regular stock will work better than I thought it would. Either way, this month can't go by any slower :(

Look for a mossberg combo. Should come with two barrels that way...

Already covered by others, Maverick 88, Mossberg 500 and Remington 870.
My personal preference is the Mossberg 500 but that is a Ford v Chevy argument, you might just like the Remington better.
