Buffalo Bore 44 Magnum +P+ 340 Grain LFN in Ruger Redhawk

I have posted on this topic before, but I have a better digital camera so better pics.

The gun is a 44 magnum Ruger Redhawk 7.5 inch barrel:


And the ammo is Buffalo Bore 44 Magnum +P+ 340 Grain LFN

It gets pretty close to a 454.

The buffalo bore 340gr 44 magnum has a velocity of 1,478 fps and a muzzle energy of 1,649 ft. lbs.

A Corbon 454 with a 335 gr. has a velocity of 1550fps and a muzzle energy of 1788ftlbs

I have the same revolver. Maybe I will get a box of those rounds. I'm a recoil junkie too. Just make sure I don't fire them out of the 329NG.

They are a h*ll of a lot of fun. However, in an indoor range they are much louder than standard loads. Where good hearing protection!

Yep, I shot them out of my buddies magnaported SBH...a very impressive fireball. I know this it the revolver forum, but many of us have rifles that shoot the same pistol cartridge. If you have a Puma 92...these are a no go for feeding due to their OAL The action is strong enough but not long enough!

I too balked when I read the title of the thread. I guess they would be nice for hunting where a one-shot deal is needed. I would rather have something a little cooler for woods defense use where a quick follow-up might be required.

I have a couple of boxes of these. (Ordered one box, received two. Sent payment for second.)

I shot some from my 5.5" Ruger Redhawk. Not bad. Reassuring when in grizzly or moose country.

Thanks, I had to practice with my 44 for many years to be able to get the same groups I started shooting with my 45 1911.

Funny thing is that I am so used to .45s and .44s that I automatically pull the muzzle down right before firing when I shoot my .22LR pistol. I can't even group better than 5 or 6 inches with it. I have to remember not to conpensate for the recoil every shot or its way too low.

20 years ago I had LBT make me up a 2 cavity mold for that bullet. I loaded over Win 296 and could get 1300 fps out of my Ruger Bisley and I cast them very hard out of linotype which I had stashed from the 70s. I shot clean thru quite a few pigs with them and they allways killed well. I still oad them into my Rem 788 22" rifle over Blue Dot to give about 1000 fps and a very quiet killer of deer off my apple trees!
I also DO shoot them at lower velocity in my 629 and old long tom 29-2 and 92 and Marlin carbines by deep seating the bullet over the Blue Dot load I use in the Rem.
