Any of you have any experence with the 255 gr Keith style bullet in 45 Colt.
Got a Ruger to use them in and a Uberti. Are they any good? Cabelas has
them for 28.00 for 20 I think and I have a 10.00 coupon.

What kind of pressures/velocities are they advertising for this load? A Ruger Blackhawk will handle them with aplomb, but I would be very leery of using them in an Uberti, which is a replica of the much smaller Colt SAA.

This is what they have available in .45 Colt. Some of it is pretty stout stuff:

Standard Pressure Heavy 45 Colt Ammo - 255gr. Gas checked soft cast bullet (1000 fps M.E.566 ft. lbs.)

Heavy .45 Colt +P Ammo - 300 gr. JFN(1,200fps/M.E.959 ft.lbs.)

Heavy 45 Colt +P Ammo - 260 gr. J.H.P. (1,450 fps/M.E. 1,214 ft. lbs.)

Heavy 45 Colt +P Ammo - 325 gr. L.B.T.-L.F.N. (1,325 fps/M.E. 1,267 ft. lbs.)

Heavy 45 Colt +P Ammo - 325 gr. L.B.T.-L.F.N. (1,325 fps/M.E. 1,267 ft. lbs.)

Heavy 45 Colt +P Ammo - 300 gr.Speer J.F.N. (1,325 fps/M.E. 1,170 ft. lbs.)

45

I have a Ruger .45 convertible. it will handle the Buffalo loads easily. You may not enjoy shooting them, they are stout. Do NOT shoot them from a Colt, or Colt clone. It will likely be very unpleasant if not dangerous.

Don't see how 15,000 cup would be bad for a Colt clone?

Even if the above load - the mildest of the ones listed - developed only 15K CUP, it is not just pressure you have to worry about. No one is saying it will blow up, but there might be issues with frame stretching and other premature wear with continued use of such a load in the light-framed gun.

Isn't the SAAMI max for a .45 Colt 14 kpsi? That should answer the clone use question. I certainly wouldn't use one in a clone if I had one. Of course, my only .45 Colts now are a pair of 625MGs, so I'd consider it's use there, except for one fact. I reload - and .45 Colt was my first cartridge to reload - so I have gobs of them loaded. I haven't bought a commercial .45 Colt in over 7 years. Of course, a 255gr LSWC at 900+ fps is a potent round.

I give up. You all have talked me out of it. I'll just stay with the factory
9,000 cup Goex Black Powder loads in both guns. Thanks.

Both guns are perfectly safe with 14,00 CUP factory loads.

Only the Ruger is safe with the "Ruger Only" loads from Buffalo Bore.

If they offer a standard pressure .45 Colt load using a 255 grain LSWC, it would be perfectly fine in your Uberti Colt clone too.

Good idea, I use a 260 grain SWC over a full case of black powder as my all purpose load in a couple of clones, 5 1/2" and 7 1/2". As a hunting load, either revolver will give through and through penetration, lengthwise, on whitetailed deer. As a plinking load it is accurate in both of my guns out to a couple hundred yards.

If it were me, I'd dump the Ruger and get another clone. But that's just me.

Auctualy I am going to dump both guns and get me a cap&ball revolver. You
guys don't know how much money you have saved me.

The 255's are standard SAMMI spec and will work in the Uberti just fine. Kind of expensive for plinking though. :)
