OK, so I got one. Been seeing them for a while and my wife said just get one.
And not just any one, I got the new and improved "BUG-A-SALT 2.0". Did not stop there,no sir. Spent an extra $5 and got the limited edition "Camofly".
Seriously though my curiosity got the better of me and I wanted something to dick around with, and kill flies. Started out using course grain salt thinking bigger would be better. Not so. Using regular salt, has 3' range and a better pattern. Course grain had trouble past 2' for a score. But it does tear plant leaves better.
It is stiff to cock. My 7 year old grand-son had to place the stock on his chest and use both hands to cock it. The auto safety sucks until you get used to turning it off after every pump cycle.

Over all the thing is OK.
$52 from Amazon

PS.
Looking forward to finding some slugs.

But how well does it kill bugs?

My friend had one of these, but it was broken when I handled it at his house one time. If it works well for killing bugs, I think I might get one.

I read a review on this thing. It does kill flies very well but if used on wasps it just pisses the wasps off. Not for dangerous game.

I'm still waiting for GAMO to buy them out and post the video of them taking down a hog with one....

I still like airsoft, but the idea to use salt as shot is very interesting. Anybody tried sand? More abrasive, but heavier. It would theoretically maintain velocity better and extend range, but the heavier load would certainly reduce velocity from the jump so performance may actually suffer.

Only on this forum would we start making custom loads for a fancy fly swatter...... Love it.

You say it works on flies, but what about HORSE flies?? Nothing so awful as an enraged horsefly. Would the bug a salt work on them, or am I better of to not use it on "dangerous game" as frogfurr puts it?

When I grew up the horseflies were so bad in the summer, you'd wish you had a few batteries of 40mm Bofors to shoot them down with!!

This new salt gun looks like it would have less collateral damage than that lol!!

'Round these parts, crane flies are called "galley nippers".

Scary, but harmless. The mouth parts cannot hurt human skin. Now horseflies... *shudder*... may God have mercy on your soul if you manage to enrage one with the bug a salt...

I have also had one for a while, mine works fine on wasps, and other stinging things that fly. Flying bugs are usually built pretty light so it does not take much to put one on the ground....it might not kill him, but it will knock him out of the air or off the window, then the good ole foot will finish him off.

Just get a good electric flyswatter. Kill them in midair. No more having to wait for them to land and then trying to find them.

I once shot a bug with an empty paintball gun at a range of a few inches, though. 800 PSI out of an unported barrel. Killed it instantly.

land...why wait for them to land....hitting them out of the air is part of the fun.

I used to shoot wasps with my .22 WMR Automag II.

Probably not a viable option in the house, though...

;)
White paper target, put it in the sun on a cool-ish day, and the bugs will land all over it warming up....just sit back and shoot. My tool for this foolishness is a Umarex Fusion with a 24 power scope from my small bore 22 rifle....one day I may shoot small bore matches again but till then this is great fun. 20 yards out and it will only leave a greasy spot....great fun.
