Anyone ever done any bug-out drills/practice?

What kind of scenario did you practice and how did you do?

My wife knows a guy who would periodically shut off all the power and utilities in his home so his family could practice using their skills.

I was thinking about getting dropped off a ways from home and having to hike back home. If I had a safe location I could practice hoofing it out there.

No, but the one that I've heard recomended is to go camping on a whim. Some friday, grab your BOB, and go camping. If you're prepared it will be a good experience. If not....
:banghead:

I frequently do bug-out-drills, though I usually call them 'reserve duty training' or 'hiking holiday with my brother and friends'.
The former involves guns and shooting, being tired and sometimes being wet, while the latter involes all of the former, it just lasts a few days longer. ;)

The camping idea is sound. It shows you what you need, forgot, and don't need. That allows you to pack your BOB with what you need, not extra junk. Plus you get a feel for the wieght you'll be carrying.

Don't forget praticing skills, besides firearms.:D Skills like building a fire with what you have in you pack, setting up a tent or building a lean-to.

You should also plan on where your Bugging out to and why. Tornado, Hurricane, Fire, Earthquake, etc. In a natural disaster have a meeting place with family if the house is gone. Two would be better, one North the other South or East, West, get the idea? Also it's a good idea if you have family out of state to use them as a calling center. That's if the phones are working, they then can take messages and get you and yours back together in a crisis where you'd have to go differnet directions or were seperated. Make sure everyone in the family knows the same information!

Aw, heck, the City of Austin does that to us every now and then for free! Guess they're just trying to keep us on our toes. Yeah, right--a governmental body caring about keeping citizens alert and responsive.
